I have the setting checked under writing about automatically converting :-) Code (markup): into yet it's not making the smilies! Is there some other setting or have the smilies been removed or something?
Maybe it only converts the one without the hyphen (i.e. "nose") into a smiley face. :) and ;) PHP: Did you recently upgrade WP or change anything?
I've done both. Nope. And to make things stranger, it works on some posts but not others! Perhaps it has to do with using Visual Mode or HTML Mode? I've used both modes for posting.
