Hey Guys, This is a weird one, im having trouble with one of my websites displaying, or even opening in Internet explorer. The site in question: http://www.mileycyrus-online.co.uk Basically when you open the site, it looks like its beginning to load, everything appears, then a dialogue box comes up which reads... "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site www.mileycyrus-online.co.uk - operation aborted" Now i thought this issue might be something wrong with my particular browser on my computer, so i tried at a friends house, and the same error appears. Whats weird about this is every now and again, the site will actually load fine in IE, other times it wont. Ive never experienced a problem opening it in Firefox - Can anybody shed any light on where the problem could lay please?
I honestly have never experienced that before! thats a good one. I myself would start trimming the java, then try and find similar scripts all from the same family... all jquery or mootools ect... But I really don't know, thats a quirker!
short answer: because websites are built according to certain standards, which makes them render (display) the same in all browsers. Internet Explorer, like most other Microsoft products, is not built according to the internation standards by which the industry functions. When you design a website properly, it shows up the same in all browser (except IE). when you design it for IE, it doesn't show up properly in other browsers. Microsoft does this as a form of 'vendor lock-in' to keep people using their product. Most people are lazy, and so since they just simply use IE, it has enough marketshare to keep designers designing limited backwards compatible websites for IE by either catering to the lowest common supported standards which both other browsers and IE both render the same, or by making IE only sites. What this means for the industry of web design, is that IE is limiting the development of standards, and if things don't develop and continue to grow, IE may jeopardize the future of the industry. IE might be killing web design, and as web designers, this means that continuing to support IE means you might be working yourself out of a job.
Absolutely So your answer to help him to fix his site is to boycott IE? Okay so when you tell your client that you will design his/her new site you tell them that it may or may not work in IE because IE is bad and 40% of the market may not reach the site because they are stupid noobs and they still use IE? Why not try to give some advice? I don't mean to be a jerk, but wouldn't it be better to say ie sucks but try fix it by doing "this".... and then make sure that you put a link to promote Firefox or Opera..
What did happen when you turned the java off completely? In my experience, Java has been a culprit more often than not when "nothing else makes sense"! Best of luck!
