Could you please explain and elaborate the GOAL of the project ? I just want to know ? Please don't get me on what is written anywhere inthe DMOZ Pages. I want something coming from you and what you really feel ?
Good projects update their goals to change with the times. I'm not an expert on DMOZ or its goals; I don't use it much because whenever I try it I find a lot of dead sites. Click tracking would allow the sites that are still being used to filter to the top. As a result new visitors to DMOZ would see relevant, popular sites and they would be more likely to come back and use it again.
Exactly. I was trying to express this to them. They use to get in the web by dial-up now we have fiber optics, dsl or cable. They use to have bulky monitors now most of them use flat panels. They use to have standard keyboards some of them has upgraded with those new ones. Maybe !! If they haven't yet they may be still wearing bell bottom gabardines and clugs shoes and sporting long wavy hairs with sideburns in 70's.
What site? - http://www.nameslot.com What categories are you not getting into? - Domain names category hxxp://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/Resources/ Does that category have an Editor? - Yes. Did you read the submission guidelines? - 100 times atleast in my life. How new is the site you submitted? - 1.8 years New Was it submitted during the slight hiatus? - It was submitted before and after it.
I thought DMOZ goal is to help surfers find most relevant websites on topics? Thanks for clearing that up, DMOZ exist solely as something for editors to play with and waste time. Anyone not editor shouldn't care about it and never use it.
a bunch of friends of mine with valid proper sites decided to try out dmoz for quite a while to no avail. no response, nothing at all. interestingly, when you submit a crap website that probably holds no commercial threat to the editor of the subject it gets in. funny, eh?
I don't know if it's funny or not, you neglected to give us the sites or category. IMHO, anyone that complains about DMOZ without also giving the site/cat is talking out their backside. As not getting listed normally has a reason, some reasons are good/valid, others are bad/not-so-valid, regardless though, there is a reason, and as DMOZ does not give reasons for exclusion, it's up to others to base judgment, and they can not do that if they have nothing to base such judgments on.
