Why was Juan Williams REALLY Fired from NPR?

    Let's see...

Nina Totenberg, NPR's legal affairs correspondent, said that she wished Senator Jesse Helms would get AIDS.

    Here's another one:
"The evaporation of 4 million [Christians] ...would leave the world an instantly better place."
    - NPR commentator Andrei Codrescu, has been on 'All Things Considered' since 9083

Both Totenberg and Codrescu still have jobs at NPR.

Why did NPR fire their only black commentator? Why is it that NPR, who employs thousands, had only ONE black commentator?

Why was Juan Williams, a man who knew better than anyone at NPR about how it feels to be the target of racism, why was he fired for expressing that he felt nervous when he saw a man in Muslim garb on the same plane as him?

Corwin, I don't think Codrescu's quote is a good comparison. After all it promotes genocide based on hatred of a particular religion. Totenberg same story, though she only wants to kill one person based on their political views.

    Perhaps this is closer.
No, couldn't be that one. Williams quote wasn't disparaging and overtly race baiting.

    Or maybe this?
No not that one either. Sherrod's quote was overtly racist, even though part of a tale of reconciliation.

Personally, I think this quote is probably the most accurate comparison of the lot.

Of course NPR would never condemn any of the people on your list or mine because their orthodoxy is correctly politically aligned with the views of NPR leadership. And to be a bit more honest, the CNN quote is very telling about the feelings liberals truthfully have about Juan Williams because his liberal voice on Fox's air gives credibility and balance to their broadcast. Its not just that he is a liberal who will appear on the Fox News network, though that most certainly enrages them. It is specifically the fact that he is black. He is an Uncle Tom, a sell out, a traitor to his race. Liberals have the same vitriol for any Republican woman, pro-life or otherwise. They are fair game to be called whores, uncle tom's, or any other slur, so long as they can be silenced. The really humorous thing about it is, Williams is a leftist through and through. I guess it is just not enough.

Here is a great read by my home town paper, the San Francisco Chronicle on the matter. You know you are in trouble when....

Isn't it great to know we have such icons of liberal ideology out there to defend our free speech? It leaves the same sickly hypocritical bitter aftertaste as Apple's slogan, "Think different".

They only get about 8% of their funding from the taxpayers, so cutting govt. funding to them won't immediately "pull the plug", though I suspect without that money, they will likely go the way of Air America and all the rest of left wing talk radio. I'm not sure who funds CSPAN, but its the best channel on television, IMO.

I agree, CSPAN shows you what is actually happening, and has the best political analysis.
