I have noticed that usually the threads which are against God or spirituality , get more STARS in this forum. I might be wrong, but this is what I have noticed. I do not mean to accuse the admin or anyone. It is really a serious question in my mind, I prefered to share it with admin and members, maybe they can explain and I can clear this from my mind. I hope I am wrong. What is your idea?
Interesting observation. I never noticed that but your probably right. I just gave this thread 5 stars! But the admin has nothing to do with how many stars a thread has, readers click on "rate thread". Perhaps people think threads that question g-d or say there is no g-d, are more interesting.
Thank you. This is the first time I have ever got 5 stars in my forum chat life I will remember this name: Rebecca
I had 5 stars before, what happened to one of them? lol In fact this thread also trying to ask this question that : now days people are more interested in spirituality? Or against spirituality? Why?
Probably because the majority of people are not only a-religious, but actually have a real problem with faith, probably because they feel they have been abused or deceived, or something similar, by religion and so they vent their frustration partly in this way. It's a normal reaction, "You hurt me, I hurt you back". Whether it should be that way is another matter...
you would have to personify 'religion' in order for it to deceive you. as for people being less spiritual, if that is the question, i am not sure that there has ever been a time when people were more or less spiritual than they are today. i suppose you could argue that back when there were less material distractions people attended church more etc., but i think you will find that back then people were just as apt to commit terrible atrocities as they are today and that having less material things or going to church more didn't necessarily make people any better spiritually.
I didn't say they HAD been deceived, but that they FEEL they have been deceived. I am a Christian (the practicing, real-life sort), so I am hardly out to bash Christianity! I am merely pointing out how people feel. For example, many people quote money-grabbing "televangelists" as a reason not to be a Christian - that could easily be perceived as a form of deception! (by me included, to a large extent). m P.S. I am not saying that is a justification for rejecting Christianity though! In fact it's a pretty poor argument. Also, I would make a very clear distinction between "religion" and Christianity. You can lump a lot of things together under the term "religion", and anyway Christianity is clear that "religion" is actually NOT the way to God!
most people are becoming wise to the ways of organised religion and choosing their own path. i personally, an atheist if i must define myself, have no problem with people choosing their own way to a god or supernatural being, but the dogma of organised religion really rubs me up the wrong way.
regarding the sticky thread about personal attacks: "Personal attacks include any attacks on someone's personal life, RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, ETHNICITY, or personal habits." Does this means that we cannot critisize religion anymore? For example if someone says that they believe in God I cannot say that the God stuff is bullshit and believing in it is a sign of lack of analysis? Is this a personal attack?
No, a personal attack is saying, "YOU are lame/stupid/backward for believing in God". As a Christian, I am not bothered if you say, "the God stuff is BS" (though it would be good to add the proviso "in my opinion", since you can't really state it as certain fact), but I AM bothered if you criticise me personally because you don't have the right to, no more than I do to criticise you for being an atheist (though I also have the right to say I think atheism is BS - though I would probably use a more polite term )
