I am new to most of this. Why does it seem that everyone makes a big deal out of using wordpress templates and other wordpress "stuff". Is there a benefit to using it that I am missing?

It's easy, Google likes blogs and wordpress blogs, the rss benefits, the ping associated with rss, the amount of plugins and templates, the amount of upgrades, easy to install and use, easy to upgrade ... benefits are endless.

    Wordpress is blogging software.

Blogging is like writing dairy online.

People write about stuff they are usually passionate about.

Wordpress is functional and flexible. There are so many plug-ins you can install to enhance the appearance, visibility, etc. of your site.

For people like me who are new to this it has been a wonderful tool in learning and developing a website.
Once you understand it you have it made. Since you have some HTML experience and it will be easy for someone like you to get a site done real quick.

Thanks for all the info and the kind hosting offer :) I really love my host though and don't want to change. It is not a hosting issue, it is a me issue with not understanding how to make it work. I know HTML, CSS, and how to FTP and a little MYSQL but this wordpress is giving me a run for it

any suggestions on where I can learn more on how to use it?

Also 1 last ? - is it just for blogging? As in you would not create a regular website with it?

    Thanks again - everyone !

You guys should try Wordpress MU. It makes it so easy to manage those evil 100 blog empires. :D
It's so cool having to only install a plugin once, or upgrade once across many sites.

It's pretty straight forward, click post and post, add categories when you post, add tags when you post. I don't understand how you are lost with it. Maybe go to wordpress.com and create a hosted blog first.

Options are limited by your imagination ... can be an article site, can be a photo album, can be a video gallery, can be whatever you want it to be ...

I didn't know anything in CSS, PHP and HTML but I can make some changes in wordpress code, cause it unbelievably user friendly. It's the most easy system to use.

WordPress is one of the best platforms to blog on. Its free, its customizable, it has a lot of features, you can do pretty much anything with it. And Google loves Wordpress. Thats basically why a lot of people use that particular platform.
