Loco, you should research on how to submit your blog and its sitemap to Google. There's special code Google will give you to stick into your blog template. The it will begin to "crawl" your site afterwards, easier some say. Blogger is good for novices to use because like others are saying it's free, easily customized and you don't have to worry about troubleshooting so much. The downside is if your blog does take off, you really want it hosted on its own domain, because if you have a blogger blog with 1000's of entries and a good number of subscribers, you'll be hurting when you try to move it.
I know about sitemaps and google, I don't know about blogger tho. Whats this code that you tell google to crawl for blogger ? Thanks
I have a couple Blogger blogs. One of them serves only to point to my website which I have had for about a year and a half. It was hosted free until about a month ago. I had dropped it for a while and just let it sit because of my job. When I did a Google search for my website over a year later just to see my rank in the scheme of things, I didn't find my website. I found the Blogger associated with it indexed on the first page of Google. Why wouldn't Google favor services that it owns as a general rule? It seems like a given to me. I am already using Google Pages to point to it as well. Even the free stuff can be used for marketing, and why not do it? It only takes a few minutes to set it up, slap a link on it, and go. It's there to catch traffic...even if it's only a couple hits...it's a couple hits without a lot of trouble that you would have missed otherwise. As far as LiveJournal...I have had one for 6 years, and I don't use it for marketing at all. It's just my personal blog. There is a large community at LJ, but the interface is not really conducive with advertising and promotion especially since they've launched their own ad supported blogs, etc. I consider Blogger, the #1 free source that is comparable in look and feel to other software such as WordPress that has to be hosted. You can get past a lot of the technical know-how in a short amount of time with Blogger and create a reputable site. Look at what the One Red Paperclip guy did with is Blogspot. Just some thoughts.
I have loads of ideas for new sites/blogs but some never make any money, I use blogger as I find it easy, it's free, I can make money with it and it's no problem with trial and error. Some of my blogs get excellent search results and page ranks, I've a few that are PR4 and PR5
so is there any difference with those of you pointing blogger to your own site? i want to get a blog started ( a couple actually), i have my own hosting and was going to buy my own domain names for it, and i saw that blogger will send the info and upload it to the site. Is this the way to go, or upload some software?
I can understand that, do you have to use a different email for each blog you make ? Or are you able to make several blogs with one account. cheers ps. how are you able to make your blog look like that ? Can you add your own styles ? thanks
