Why use a CMS?

I really don't have much knowledge of what they are or what they do. Does it make it quicker to add content to your site?
Also, do you think sites like http://ign.com and http://gamespot.com use a CMS?

 

yes it does make it quicker, CMS all have good and bad points (there are plenty of threads about CMSs if you do a search of this forum)

definetly it is easy to maintain a CMS, and if you have php or asp knowledge you can add modules to a cms like joomla, etc

CMs content management systems. The name says it all

 

Personally, I tried Joomla and thought it was too dumbed down and didn't allow for as easy low level customizations as I wanted. I'm now customizing wordpress for my needs.

 

you can do what you want witout a cms. cms helps you for making your site easyly.
