I'm just wandering why people asking about uniq visits and not about hits. I got problem with fair tradinglink exchange. My myspace site is getting about 700-800 uniq visitors a day but I got lots of returnig quests as I'm daily updating my site. So the value of my site is about 800uv/day. But the true is that I'm getting 6000 hits and xx.xxx pageviews. So why uniqs are better?
Who cares about how many times people click on your site. It's all about the number of unique people that visit you. The more people visit, the more close you come to balancing your CTR rate in adsense for example.
Hits does not mean anything today because hits just means the number of objects being transferred over. Say if you have a web site with 99 images on one page, anyone who access it for the first time and fully load that page would be counted as 100 hits (1 html/php + 99 images). The more files that need to be transferred the higher the hits number. What is important is not how far you break down or pack in one page but the number of people visiting your website. That is where unique visitors or visits come into play. If a person view that same web page, it would just count as 1 unique visitor. Unique visitors counts as real people visiting your website. Personally, I will take into account both the unique visitors and the number of pageviews together and not look them separately. Unique Visitors tells you how many people visit your site and page views tells you how long they stay at your web site.
lol, i think you still didnt understand. Uniques=A person that comes to your site Hit=A transferred object to from ur server to the client Pageview=The number of time the unique person clicks on your site.
Hits and pages views can be bots and traffic exchanges. They have no real value unless a real person is on site. Unique usualy is a person not always but it is closer to real number of people going to site each day.
Yeah, you can get lots of hits just by one user refreshing the page, that is why people only count unique visits as valid.
No, you don't get what I said. Say, if you have a web page with 99 images. For Hits, that would count as 100 hits but for page view, it will only count as 1 page view. Hits is the number of objects being transferred to the visitors, each web page, each images, each video clip, all of which are counted as 1 hit each. Page view only counts the html/php page and not the objects on it. So a webpage with just plain text and a webpage with 99 images on it, each will just count as 1 page view.
