Ok, since the update I rank well for a lot of terms. One example: I am #3 for a plural phrase and #2 for its singular. According to wordtracked these combined make up around 2000 searches a day (overture says nearer 10000). The problem is I am seeing no increaes of traffic from this or any other phrase which I rank as well, if not better for. I have checked across as many different yahoo IP's that I could find, and all show the same equally good results. I find it hard to beleive that yahoo has lost so much market share, orthat so many people use teh sponsored listings that there is relatively no traffic from organic listings. I am at a complete loss for an explanatino to this, I know some people on here were experiencing similar things when this update started last week, but are all these peole still having the same problems? Can anyone think of a reasonable explanation for this?
Yahoo is so cluttered with adverts and other links that half the people will never make it to the organic listings.
yeah, like I said i expected that to contribute, but not to the point where NOONE uses the organic listings surely??
Is it possible that the log analyzer tools are not accurately portraying the amount of traffic from Yahoo? For example, by comparing the results from a log analyzer to the traffic results reported directly by Yahoo Web hosting I find that the traffic is consistently under-reported using the Yahoo traffic stats. (this is not specific to yahoo searches, but just demonstrates that there are inaccuracies in traffic reporting)
My site has been up for about 3 months and I get absolutely no traffic from Yahoo. Still in the sandbox from google so everything is from MSN.
well like i said these terms are competitive - very competitive in fact. I dont need any ovt or wordtracker stats to tell me that... Very bizarre... just when you think you have struck gold!
I think it does also depend on your niche with Yahoo. For example I have several high rankings for keywords with quite similar Overture ratings on Yahoo, however only some of them send in visitors, while others don't bring any traffic at all.
me? No. That wouldnt make any difference as to whether people clicked organic listings or not. Maybe to the rankings but i dont have a problem with the rankings
My stats show more MSN traffic than Yahoo, and I rank very similarly for the terms compared. I'm shocked at how little traffic Yahoo has been sending...
tiptop, I have an idea which keyword you are relating to, and I'm very surprised you aren't getting no traffic extra from it whatsoever, I would have expected an increase in traffic BUT don't forget theres a number of factors to take into consideration; a) it's a very top level keyword, in that you would get more traffic from yellow thick widgets than thick widgets. I would think that few searchers would search for thick widgets. b) it's christmas time! In the travel industry, traffic does die down this time of the year, the leadup to Christmas, that's my experience in the last 3 years anyway! c) yahoo is no longer just a search engine - they have moved away from that many years ago, and I may get 1,000 refferals a week from one keyword on Google, on Yahoo I'll be lucky to get 100 referrals I would be tempted to check your stats, especially your logs, because it is bizare that you haven't receive any traffic at all.
wwh, its not just the term you're thinking of, its loads! Keyword tracker shows different results, but still very very good. At 1 point i ranked #3 for 'vacation'. I think results are propogating across servers as there are slight changes but like i said, which ever set of results I look at it is still a significant improvement. I know its not the best time of year for travel industries but still!!! btw, how did your site(s) fair in the update wwh? edit: didnt see your 'thick widgets' analogy but again, its ranking well for 'thick widgets', 'thick yellow widgets' etc...
20% of my traffic comes from Yahoo. That's a little less than half the Google traffic. MSN is surprisingly high at 35%. But it seems that it's much easier with MSN to score high SERPs rankings than with Yahoo.
Actually yes it would... I rank #1 for Telephone Systems w. yahoo. I dont get very much traffic from them. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=te...Search&fr=FP-tab-web-t&toggle=1&cop=&ei=UTF-8 I bet #2,4,5 get a lot more visitors than I do... Before I was in the directory, I was #3...and got 4X the traffic from yahoo. All that said---my google rankings increased...so it all worked out.
Absolutely, and I do predict it will get worse. Especially since they are coming out with what they call more creative paid ads. I bet you the creativeness will limit organic traffic from almost only non-commercial keywords. Eventually all of the free lunches seem to be coming to an end, kind of like comparing the Wild West to the current housing rates in california here is an announcement from YAhoo!
I may have read that wrong but are you saying that at #1 you get less traffic than #2,#3 etc because #2,#3 are in the Y! directory?? Surely the only reason that #1 would get less traffic is if your title or description or whatever is used to display results is not what people searching for 'telephone systems' are looking for?
I think we should stop associating Yahoo as a top 3 of search engine - Google and MSN yes, but Yahoo are 5 according to my stats. I get more traffic from Dogpile and AOL. tiptop, not sure what effect the update has had on the site, have ignored all the threads and checking of serps etc, and just concentrated on other areas of marketing until the madness was over - just started today going through all the pages and seeing what effect the update has had on the site.
I am in the same boat here. I am #1 for SEO and Web Designers and boy there is hardly anything for traffic but I did noticed a big increase in traffic for Myspace terms like Myspace Layouts so it maybe that Yahoo sends traffic to different industries.
