Hey Everyone, after a couple of months of optimizing, my site finally made it to nr 4 on google for my target keyword. then one day, with out making any changes, the site no longer ranks for ANY keyword. can anyone tell me what i did wrong? Have i been penalized for something? http://www.accommodation-chile.com
It can lead directly to a drop in the rankings. On the other hand, ensuring that the website is in line with the major social sites will give search engines a barracks
Recent panda updates by google have drastically changed SERP positions. My sites have been affected aswell. Check if your site is still indexed, if it isn't, you may be sandboxed
I launched the site in january and i watched it climb to 4th by February . then by mid February it took a dive. it seems that the panda excepted the site and its still indexed.
Google will often grab a site that is new, and rank it highly. After a short period of time it will settle into its more appropriate position
google panda latest update should be the one to blame http://insidesearch.blogspot.com/2012/02/search-quality-highlights-40-changes.html if your content is unique you have nothing to worry but as it looks google has indexed 40 of your pages and you are ranking highly for your own domain name "accommodation-chile.com" so at least you are not penalized for something maybe you should (re)consider doing some quality link building
Thanks, Im glad to hear im not penalized. but it confuses me even more cause the content is original. I opened a blogspot account with the same name which still has no content and its ranking higher then the site it self (60-70+) What do you mean by "(re)consider doing some quality"? Im open to suggestions
@PNV, when your site got this hit? If you elaborate what you did recently will help us understand better. Quick things 1.You have "Chile Accommodation & Hotels" in title of so many pages. You may consider a change. 2. Description of all pages seems same. Again need to change it. 3. http://www.accommodation-chile.com/blog/ is blank. google says... don't make live any under construction kind of page (page without content). 4. Big affiliate banner in top of navigation (near logo) is no more good (after 10 Jan, 2012). 5. You have so many broken links. 6. ALL top navigation links are affiliate links and going to merchant sites. Very Bad for SEO now a day. It seems your site is pure affiliate site which don't add anything valuable to visitors, so in my opinion it should be a big hit by panda algorithm. BTW... I am also fighting the same sudden ranks drop problem, but my site is free from all above said problems. See my problem by following link in my sign. It is a DP thread.
Thank you for the advise. The site dropped 2nd half of February. I thought if i made the affiliate links no-follow, it would help. i guess not. I read that if the affiliate links go to a "your leaving this page, page" first, it should help. is that a possibility ? I'll get on top of making the changes you've suggested
This seems not going to help. Your site should contain content like what to do, what not to do, things to remember etc etc (as content), and then give link to your merchant as reference. In my opinion you should remove ALL affiliate links, and keep your search intact as it is. Search alone is enough to take your website visitors to merchant. This is just my openion, who himself is fight with Google's panda when it comes to affiliate sites.
Can anyone here suggest brilliant grammar /spell check tool? The best one seems grammarly.com, but it require lot of brain to fix the bugs. So I use "ginger" which is again good (fix 75% problems which grammarly detects) and easy.
I saw your post "An SEO question for senior SEOs and affiliate marketers. Looking for some good help. " I have applied a similar strategy as yourself. writing about the product and adding links. What would be the difference between a site like ours with content and links vs a comparison site ?
Thank you for caring my problem. In my opinion, the difference between my current site your current site is -- (1) whatever points I have listed above, (2) You wrote about product and give links everywhere, and I wrote about product and give links with context. I think I have also placed affiliate links overly. A comparison site seems to provide an extra value to the merchant site.
