Why such a big difference in ranking when "quotes" added?

    Hi Everyone,

This is what I don't get. When I search a particular targeted keyphrase with “Quotes“ I rank higher. Here are some examples:

Keyword With "Quotes" return results of 1.5 mil, I'm on page 2 on G.

Keyword with NO "Quotes" return results of 49 mil, I'm on page 8 on G.

This particular keyword with no quotes, used to show 3 mil results about a month ago, now it shows 49 mil. I see the Google index has really expanded lately.

I also target another keyword that is only 1 page difference in results by adding "quotes"

    Example

Results With No "Quotes" Return 7.8 mil and I'm on page 6

Results With "Quotes" Return 6.9 mil and I'm on page 5

My competition has a 2 page difference at the most, not like mine, 6 page difference.

So do you guys think my first example without quotes will balance out and eventually catch up to the ones with the quotes? Or will it never catch up unless I put in the quotes.

    Any feedback will be appreciated.

    Thanks...

When you enter a search query with quotes, you are requesting only pages containing that exact phrase. When you enter a query without quotes, the results will include pages that are related to all of those words whether or not they appear on the page in that order. Traditionally, the search engines have prioritized the results in the order in which they appear in your query. That is, the first word is given the most weight in the results, the second word, a bit less weight, and so on. Then they would sort the results by word proximity, and, of course, all of the other well-known ranking factors are considered, too.
