Why so much direct traffic?

I started a site with a friend of mine about 4 days ago ( today is the 4th day) and set up analytics with the account. For some reason, 80% of my traffic is direct. My domain name is illmcnasty.com so I'm assuming its because people go " I wonder if this is a site" then type it and and go but that seems a bit unlikely.

    What you guys think?

Well, dn't panic its normal for a new site. Mainly because initial traffic you get is via word of mouth. Also, in some instance I have seen people dn't exclude their IPs, in that case you end up counting your own visits to the site, that'll count under Direct Traffic.
Give it some time and you'd see fairer results.

Thanks for the post, and about the excluding IP I will do that now, but the amount of uniques arent much different that the visitors so I know its not all me.

Edit: I forgot my IP was already excluded.

If a lot of the traffic is direct traffic, this could be due to your domain name being a very good one that many people remember.

Maybe people are searching for the keywords from your website.

Check out the other analytics measurements under traffic sources.

maybe it's from homepage rss feeds? the url isn't exactly easy to type.. but then again, 160 hits is still very low.

Good luck on your site, keep up the good work :)

parka: I really small percent is from search engine traffic, which is in a different category then direct traffic.
Loco: Thanks for the post, it seems for 3-4 days 160 hits is a pretty good amount, especially if you don't know where its coming from.

Direct traffic is often from repeat visitors that just type your site URL in their bar. It means you're building a good readership. Nothing to worry about.

It could be that when your domain redirects from non-www to www it has no referrer. ;)

For a 4 day old site, its too much direct traffic I would say. Since you have it, enjoy:)
