It is not uncommon to see digital point users to have posted thousands of comments on this forum. My question is why? That represents thousand of hours of work... is it part of a massive signature link campaign? habit? or nothing better to do with their time? No disrespect intended, I just don't get it... everybody's time is worth something... Your thoughts...?
Well, a lot of webmasters enjoy coming on and posting on DP, so I guess that's why they post. Some people also find jobs and sell things in the BST, so it can be a pretty essential part of a webmaster's life. Sig wise, firstly, it's going to get you traffic, as people might click on your link. Secondly, it gets you backlinks
Why I do it? I love DP -> I love answers.. so on most questions I try to give an answer.. it's the same if I ask a question.. I want answers too... More posts -> mostly better reputed when selling something I'm selling much so I get more posts... Because of all those posts there are ALWAYS at least 5 replies of me being viewed every minute... Now, if someone finds a cool thing in my sign they will probably click it And so much links? Well because I sell links... more links -> more money Greetz
The popularity of dp forum can be attributed to its do follow links (among others) and as your post count increases, so do your backlinks. If your posts are more meaningful (and helpful), you become more popular and there are more chances for your sig. links to be clicked (provided when it is linked with a catchy anchor text)
Many people enjoy hanging out in forums and sharing information with others. Others find very nice to help newbies and answer questions. As you said some people have nothing else to do and some are looking to advertise their product. In my opinion all of them apply, there are so many people around that you can find each different type and people with more than just one interest.
It is probably more out of habit than anything else. Most of us have been here on the forums for more than three years, and regularly post. If DP went down, I'm sure plenty of people here would fidget with their keyboard till it came online.
I have spent most of my time here learning about the industry as a whole. But I can see that the more posts you have the stronger your reputation will be seen and the easier it would be to sell products on this forum. If you can get to the point of being "forum famous" there are a lot of opportunities to use to your advantage if you don't abuse it.
Haha, How to get the right answer, only by asking the right questions. How do I know if its a right question, only by DP members telling me its a stupid question... LOL but on the other hand, in the IM world, there all too much info, only through sharing, we learn together we learn along the way, and hopfully, we earn too! Cheers
It is just a COMMON thing on Digitalpoint since this is very popular. It also helps webmaster to rank better on search engine.
In my case: three reasons First - web work is a solitary game. The forum puts a social aspect back in, and as a bonus everyone else knows what it's like, too. Participating in my online communities keeps me sane, and makes it just as real as my dayjob. Second - if I help someone out, or ask a question, I reckon it's just courteous to give them a way to check me out a bit more and find out where I'm coming from. I know I follow other people's sigs for the same reason. Third - yes, backlinks+traffic. Good quality info here, to a decent size audience, I see as being just as valuable (if not more) than paid advertising, hence, worth the effort. The web is a community. There's no benefit in being a recluse online.
I am still new to some of this stuff and I get a lot of information from DP. I put links in my signature out of habit and because I do want traffic. I don't post here much, but I still get a few visitors. Really it is worth the time to add a few links in a signature if you plan on posting even a few times in a forum. You never know who will click that link.
It's good for webmaster to get better SEO and promote there biz. I sell stuff here and I like just to post around.
Did you know that smart marketers actually use outsourced labour to post on forums on their behalf? Ask yourself why would they do that if it didn't work? They do this with articles writing and submissions and blog posts and a whole lot more. It's not because they are lazy, it's because their time is worth something to them... money.
Staving off boredom, also I have learned alot here..and since I am posting away may as well put my sites in and gain some backlinks in the process, although that is not my main aim of posting.
