why so many sig links for aviva directory?

Why are so many people linking to Aviva Directory in their sig? They aren't affiliate links so what do you get out of it? Maybe they are paying to advertise in people's sigs  or a lot of people from DP own Aviva
It's starting to affect my sleep as well ;)

wow, that's quite interesting if that's true (I can't be sure, people joke around so much on DP! It's great though!)

I'm sure it's true. I've seen lots of people advertising for people to buy a link in their signature.

    Of course it is true.

    Onlinedude
is the owner of Aviva directory and a few more.

Someday when you have 500+ (not spammy) posts, someone may buy your signature too. DP gets tons of traffic everyday and DP signatures can be a good source of targeted traffic. Moreover the signatures are good for SERPs, especially in MSN.

Sig Links are very much valued. Put it this way. I get $35 per month per link in my sig. It means they get over 2500 backlinks technically, depending on pages in DP that are indexed.

    Col :)

A link on DP is counted as a backlink? There's nofollow or anything? So Google loves us?

I don't think Google would give much importance to forum signature links even though they are cached but as someone mentioned, they seem to have an effect in MSN.

Sorry, but I just think it's kinda silly. I mean if I see a signature once on a guy that posted something valuable I would click it anyway. No need to flash it in my face every other thread. What a waste of money :p

Not a waste of money at all. It is perfectly targeted advertising.

Who submits sites to Aviva? Webmasters. Where are we? DP. Who is reading and posting in DP? Webmasters.

Check Aviva's inner page ranks. And then their submission prices. :)

Not easy to get accpeted, but well worth it if you can get in.

So if I bid for "marketing" on adwords I will get a great ROI even with the site I'm running? Wow! You shouldn't have given out that secret here!
