Hello everybody, If you have noticed...many members want to be 'moderator' in forums...I wonder if they consider it as privilege or something else?... Any feedback welcome!
i couldn't explain why people are interested in becoming moderators, i can say anyone who asks or volunteers shouldn't be trusted. my 2 cents.
People pay extra attention to what moderators say, and their websites. Plus its an honor. Think thats the reason.
May be they would love to have power in their hand ... after all everyone would love to get power from USA to Russia or UK.
Many people would like to play safe with moderators. it would in deed be a privilege to be a moderator of this forum, but other low profile forums I don't think so. Besides I guess it gives us a sense of power, responsibility and authority
and earning of course,.. if the forum getting bigger and bigger,...but for when you running your forum for the first time that is the Hardest way,...
Moderators are leaders of a community and normally respected. It's a position that's attractive to some people. Some are natural leaders and do well. Some are power hungry and do poorly. I don't see the desire to be a moderator as a negative. Why would you want someone on your staff that doesn't want the position? However you have to be careful about people who are pushy about obtaining mod powers. You should have a screening process and know exactly the type of members you want on the staff. Also have a set of rules and policies well laid out for them.
They just do it for the power and the fame or to trick you and destroy your forum. Even if they are not capable of handling the job, they will still give it a shot, and ask, "Can I be a moderator". And, the usual reply is always the same, "No !". Unless, the administrator of a forum says, "this person will be active on my forum if I give him/her the power. And, currently, my forum is dead, so let me give him/her a shot at it." Also, they always come with the bribes... On my test forum I created some months ago, someone registered, and ask me to be a moderator. They said that they would make the forum flooded with traffic. Even when my forum was just a test forum for me to practice some stuff on and there were not much areas to talk generally. Guess what I did? I deleted the member, and locked off guests from registering on the forum.
The ones who usually ask for a position ("Can I be a moderator?") are the people you should keep your eye on. Nine times out of ten, they are interested in a moderator position for the wrong reasons. Those who inquire about positions ("If any moderator positions are available...", "If you're in need of any moderators...") sometimes are good leaders and are genuinely interested in a position to help manage your community. My personal philosophy is that I hand-pick moderators who I think will make great leaders, aren't too interested in flaunting their "power", and will be interested in accepting the position. Those who ask or inquire are left to be chosen as last resorts, if at all.
yup be very careful who you mod gotta be someone you have known for awhile and that you trust, pay atention to maturity level most of all
The same reason people like to get trophies for playing sports ? I just like having access to logs and whatnot so I know what the hell is going on around me.
