the typicle dot com question is why one should use (.com) domain i,ve resurched and concluded that it dose meter bcoz most of direct visitors use CTRL+ENTER with site name insteed of writing full www.com command in new explorers the (.com)is default with this short key . So if you have a domain other then (.com) extention and some one do have the same name with (.com) extention will surely get an edge over you please verify if i am true/false or suggest on http://www.directorieslist.blogspot.com
.com is the majoy player, no doubt about that. But I don't think this is true: I've been an internet user for 10+ years and I don't even do that (I just learned about it actually).
I never use CTRL-enter either, though some browsers do when typing in a keyword in the address bar, go to "<keyword>.com", most go to google or a search engine. the TLD is becoming less important especially with news that ICANN is opening up TLDs to virtually anyone See timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article4218629.ece Few people now guess the URL of what they are looking for and search engines and SEO is what its all about now, as opposed to the importance of the TLD, though the url itself can be important branding wise and also keyword wise.
Many people type in the name of the site. I have typed in the name of sites that have .net and .org domain names before, and I used .com because it is standard. It took me a while flipping through the .co.uk, .net, and .org domain extensions before I finally found what I was looking for.
.com is a must if you want to show that you are serious and globally. If not, a country domain will do.
depends what you need your domain after all. .COM are general and very popular but if you're running an organization u can always go with .org Remember that soon the .coms will come to an end of resources and other alternatives will need to be used. like right now ICAAN are going to start city domains like .nyc and so on
i think people are used to using .com and its easy to remember domain names ,i like to use ctrl+enter
thanks people for this much info i started this thread bcoz some times you enters just the name of the site and the browser redirects you to a search engine . in internet explorer it takes you to msn and in fire fox strait to google thats why if you are going directly to a site pressing this short key will do the rest.
You can tell a client your site is .biz or .info or whatever ten times and give them a card with that on it and they will STILL type in .com.
Because .com is universally recognized. Because it is more trusted. Because no matter how many more extensions come out, the one 99% of normal people will know is .com.
you got my word buddy there are examples of url owners who use to have a .biz or .info type of extension but after that they do bought .com domain from some one else
