A few years again I bought the Auto Social Poster plugin for Wordpress. This plugin is supposed to automatically bookmark your post in about two dozen social bookmarking sites. Out of the two dozen social bookmarking sites the following five still work with my version of the software: 1. blinklist.com 2. delicious.com 3. spurl.net 4. google.com/bookmarks/ 5. bookmarks.yahoo.com This past summer, around early-mid July, I started 5 new sites with the intention of using social bookmarking as the primary link building technique. In addition, I started using social bookmarking for a your old abandoned site for a total of six sites . All these websites are Wordpress v2.5 blogs According to each of the above social bookmarking sites I have between 475 and 525 bookmark links divided up among the six sites Yet last night I check the back links inside Yahoo site explorer and could not find one single external link from any social bookmarking site. Further more upon further investigation I discovered social bookmarking sites 1 and 2 both use "no follow" links.. Social bookmarking sites 4 and 5 both use redirects links with JavaScript. Plus, as far as I can tell, bookmarks from 4 and 5 are invisible to the public. This defeats the purpose of using them as a link building tool since all links are unspiderable. Social bookmarking site 3 has "do follow" publicly accessible links. But I learned that they require a lot of manual manipulation to work and I prefer automating my bookmarking. Does social bookmarking still work as a link building tool? Am I using the wrong social bookmarking sites? What am I doing wrong?
yes, social bookmarking is still a good thing to take advantage of I don't know about the plugin your using though
Still good although it’s not a do follow link you end up getting a lot of traffic from those places. You want to get traffic not link juice. So that will still work.
I think the point is -.... if they're nofollow links you'll not get search engine benefits, although you might get some direct traffic from there. I somehow wonder even for DO follow links if the social bookmarking sites aren't a little... over-hyped. My general idea with backlinks is to try for a nice variety of types of backlinks. Social bookmarking sites, forums, directories, comments/trackbacks, etc. rather than having 90%+ of your links from one category.
its is still a goo0d link building tool and if used properl0y, it can drive some traffic to your site as well. however, to take full advantage of social bookmarking, you must submit to dofollow sb sites manually
Social sites are good for a quick hit of visitors but don't give you much in the way of seo. You should continue to use them but not as your main way of building links.
well i think the idea for me is not to get social bookmark sites to link to me(they have to for this to work though) but to use those links to expose my quality content so other bloggers/site owners will link to me(permanently) voluntarily. please read up on "linkbaiting" and you will agree.
it's always good ways to draw more traffic and backlinks. you may not get back links directly from the social bookmark sites but if the trafic their like your site, they may make more links pointto your site.
100% agree with this post. If you create content that people love, bloggers and other sites will link to you naturally... and the social bookmark sites will expose your content to them!
Social bookmarking sites should not be used for primary link building. There is no shortcut to building quality backlinks. You've got to build relationships with site owners, visit blogs, and or pay for advertising. I just use social bookmarking for traffic blasts.
Most of the social bookmarking websites are no-follow. So no advantage in ranking. But yes lots of traffic on attractive article. Just continue your work. Its good to submit the pages but interesting pages will give you traffic and also make friends in social bookmarking. Vote on their sites and get vote from them.
I think social media/interaction will go on to play a significate role in SEO as PR'd links become more difficult to acquire. There is a good post on seobook on this.
