I see a lot of people pay for PSD designs and then have to pay even more to have it converted to xhtml/css. What's up with that, no more real web designers out there? In my opinion, this is like mcdonalds giving you a big mac with no hamburger and telling you to go to Burger King to get the burger put on the bun. Why offer half a service or pay for half a service? Just my 2 cents.
Using photoshop (or any graphics program) to create a "mockup" design is much easier than creating the 'mockup' , slicing it and marking it up validly. I suppose it's either a time thing or a lack of skill thing.
I agree with you on some degree. But I think it might be that there many designers who can't code and many coders who cannot design - by splitting this up, it saves some money say if i was a coder but just needed the psd. I have made my own psd's and hired someone to code them for me.
A lot of designers can't code a layout up, and just selling a design is often a good thing for them and the person buying it. The buyer might know how to code it for a start.
And the people who buy the PSD can make minor changes to it before they start coding too. The programmers may not be as creative as designers
I agree. Most designers i know sell PSD's so that the people who buy them can easily edit them. It can also be the fact that they can't code.
It's cheaper to sell. All they care for is to sell it, and even with it not coded it's cheaper. That's the keyword most people tend to go with. They'll buy the PSD and then get stuck with what's next to do.
You could pay another gut to pay another guy to slice it too Either way, no one is being forced to buy PSD's , it's supply and demand. I could possibly ,see myself buying a really nice PSD to code and sell on, improbable but you never know.
PSD is easy to modify. Many people just buy cheap nice looking *.psd, then they edit few things like some colors etc because most of the time they don't like the design as is, they just like the idea but they wanna modify it. Of course they need to code it then.
This has inspired me to sell a really nice PSD, it's more fun, creatively than coding WP. Maybe that's your answer
I currently design and sell PSDS, reason I do that rather then sell the full website coding, is because of time and it's alot easier on myself.
I guess some people can slice and code, but cannot create and the other away around. Thats why they are sold, I always buy a nice .PSD if I feel its worth buying. Its like an addiction for me.
