    Because that's what proxies do.

Users are served the content they are viewing via your server.

You can reduce it by ever 3rd person who comes to your homepage have a redirect to http://www.proxyfairy.info :p that'll decrease it I'm sure! I can handle 210gb's a month I got 250gb a month :)

Not being funny, Theres almost no way you can decrease it.. unless you wanna redirect to another site. Thats the cons of a proxy once you get popular!

I haven't used PHP proxy but does it allow you to limit how much bandwidth a user can use as you may have a few users who are downloading via your proxy that could easily build up the bandwidth usage.

Ok, i think i found out why this eating so much bandwidth.
    _____

This is because people are using proxies to hotlink images off your proxy sites (mostly porn)

So to prevent this hotlinking, can you use any code or soemthing that you can save a huge amount of bandwidth?

    if anyone knwos please help.

Right, hotlinking is something that ruins a bunch of websites.

You can block countries and in the new phproxy, adjust the file size allowed through the proxy.

Use .htaccess to block Iran.. they are notorious for abusing proxies.. Just paste the following into your .htaccess file.

I allowed one of my friends to host a proxy site under my hosting whm.

Within 10 days of buying the domain, the proxy site had reached 0.5 gb per day bandwidth consumption.

My host suspended hosting to the site for overloading their servers :D.

Proxies by their nature consume high bandwidth - there is not much that can be done about that.

This is good, but you dont need it in the new phproxy.

Are they all Iranian IP`s ?

Well, that is the very nature of proxies. On a simplistic view, the proxy site is a middleman, when the visitor makes a request, the proxy will then send the request to the site in question, there it will transfer the content to the proxy server then forward it to the visitors.

So in theory, if a visitor downloads a 10gb file through your proxy, you will incur 20gb of bandwidth (10gb from the site to the proxy and 10gb from the proxy to the visitor).

That's the very nature of a proxy and the only way you can lower bandwidth usage on your proxy would be to limit the number of people who can use it. The less people using it, the less bandwidth you will incur.

There is nothing much you can do about it. If you cannot support the high bandwidth and CPU Resources the proxy script uses then running a proxy may not be for you.

The best way is to prevent hotlinking, some people feel the need to block countries but most of the time they are your biggest users. I think you will notice a large decrease in bandwidth if you stop hotlinking.
