    Just noobs and folishness.
PR is still one of the about 200 ranking factors that determine SERPS.

PR is important for link selling and domain selling because it is the easily available factor to webmasters (from the search engine - google itself) for determining the price for link and domain.
As Pr of any page can be checked easily then any other factor
    more reasons-
    1) PR is in the hand of big master - Google (every one can trust him)
    2) OBL of page is in control of webmaster- can change anytime
    3) Inword links to page is in control of other people - can change any time.
    4) traffic to page is in control of (SE, Inword links, Direct access )can change any time
    5) content is in control of webmaster- can change anytime

    -----------------
so only PR is the most stable factor available to webmasters for determining the price for link and domain.

    I hope this will help

When one of my sites went from PR 3 to 4 the ads started paying CONSIDERABLY better.

Otherwise it is just one factor. My business website - basically just a summary of what we do and some contact info - has PR 2, probably because it is linked in from a lot of good regional business directories, the yellow pages etc. But because it is a regional business in a small town and you have to have the town name in your search query, it gets virtually no traffic. But our conversion rate from searches to clicks to phone calls to us is very very high because it ranks #1 on Google for all the search strings I care about *grin*

    @all
    Thanks for your replies...

I hope knowing the worth of a website is most peoples interest... and I don't see anything wrong in people expecting so much for PR update......

Why are people expecting so much.... because its less frequent..... if it has been much dynamic... I hope people will not see much difference in their ratings between updates and hence the number of topics opened for this will be reduced...

I hope google is not stupid enough to hold on to something worthless for years... and waste the amout of resources consumed for PR.......

    Hi,

In my own experiences, PR is still important for below reasons:
    1. PR itself is a ranking factor though might be not decisive one.
    2. Pages and sites with higher PR would usually come with higher quality page contents and back links. These 2 would be also important for SERP purpose.

    all the best,

I think post author dont have any high PR site so what he said like this. PR is not only numbers PR show your trust or reputation in search engine. If unfortunately you get high pr you will see your site will come in top search. one thing remember high PR mean up to 5 page rank like 6 7 8 9
