Why people submit in the top level categories?

As a fact most directory admins will delete any links submitted to the top level categories.

Then why lot of guys go and submit in the top level categories?

I had to delete a bunch of links that were submitted like that.

    Any insight on this?

Do you accept links in the top level categories? when there are a bunch of sub categories out there?

    Thanks

They're probably auto-submissions, done by a program not a human.

i submit some of my sites to top level, and sometimes it is necessary. For example where would a site about general sports (ex, espn.com) fit if not on the top level. In a basketball or football, NO, so sometimes it is necessary to submit to top.

HOWEVER, usually there is a more apporiate category but people want to be on top for obvisous reasons, better traffic, pr, or from bots

I'd only allow top-level if it is a paid directory thought

I'm with online dude, most submissions seem to come from automated scripts.. freakin stupid bots.

Auto software submissions or people who do not bother to read guidelines.

I have in my guidelines in all my sites, paid featured ads ONLY in top categories, all others in sub-categories.

And still delete a good part because of top level category submission without paying for a featured ad.

mostly for having a link in a High PR page , but then if the directory gets good submissions that place is not gonna stay unless u buy a premium listing anyway
