C'mon, man, look at the green bar... All the cool people are doing it... Your folks used to do it... They probably still do, they just don't admit it... It'll make you feel good... Forget all your problems... It's harmless, they lied to us... We'll turn you into a PR addict yet, Jeff.
Yes, and with future ''improvements'' of G's Algo link relevance will be more important then ever...link reputation is the next big factor to considder in SEO. I only wanted to point out that PR is something you should care about and should not be taken lightly. You made an excellent point Mjewel.
also, if google are ever going to release one for Mac, they have released google earth for mac, so they arent strictly releasing stuff for PC owners. I know theres a petition for it, but is there really any chance?
actually, found a konfabulator widget on this website, so looked for a widget for Mac OSX Tiger, and there is one!, here http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/google page rank.html It says that my site has a page rank of 4, my site being fairly new, is that good or bad?
I do care about PR and if other not so their own choices. Have you ever seen site with PR0 archieve in top 5 in serps with very high competitive keywords?? Like real estate, flower, jewelry etc.. If yes, show me some an example.
What I wish is that webmasters that use PR for judging sites think about Google's end of the PR and not the toolbar PR as it gets old real quick There are a few things PR is important that people have mentioned in this thread BUT PR is not going to tripple your earnings.
Not necessarily. This is the kind of person that "THINKS" PR is good for serps. No Offense Firestorm Now there are sites that do rank that have high PR but this is how I view PR. Links = Ranking right But as a side effect it also brings PR.
I also have a couple of PR0 sites that make me money. I guess if my PR was higher I might be listed higher in more searches but its not required to make a profit from a site. Would be nice to see it and know I was popular though...LOLOL
Well PR is necessarily according to me , If you are optimizing for a keyword with 15 million competition , a site with PR 0 cannot possibly be first if there are more than 1000 sites with PR >5 going for the same KW . And also if your site is good , you get natural backlinks . If you have got a poor site , it is obvious the PR will be 0 . A webmaster can judge his website according to the PR.
That's very true Firestorm. But the links you do gather to help fight competition also carry the PR side effect. Links related to your site is IMO more important then getting a PR8 link. Now if that PR8 link IS relevent to your site then go for the gold hehe.
Well said Firestorm. A site that has better PR has a bigger chance to rise in the SERPS so therefor a better chance of attracting more visitors so therefor a chance to get more profits, simple as that.
PR is in coming times being more based on relevance so if a site has a high PR then it's due to the fact that a lot of ''important'' or a lot of less ''important'' sites with relevant and matching themes link to your site. Therefor PR is important and even more as it was before since link reputation is in my view going to be more valued then before.
This is a good point, every little extra bit you can do to help with placement will no doubt in the end have an impact on your bank account. Problem is I have witnessed people who spent so much time focused on PR that they forgot their goal was to make $$, not get that "pretty green on your toolbar"...lol Yes thats an extreme example and probably doesnt happen that often but when you start getting happier to see green in your toolbar then green in your pocket there is a problem...lol On a different note, Im gonna like it here. Its nice to see business related discussions without people argueing over some dumba$$ crap.
Yes but it's just one of more than 100 factors that Google uses to rank pages. It's importance is thoroughly overblown if you are shooting for good SERPS. If, however, you are selling links or rely heavily on the COOP/LV then I can understand the fascination. Speaking from personal experience, my main site has exactly the same toolbar PR it had 2 years ago. Traffic on the other hand is about 400% increased. There's no way in the world I'd trade one measily PR point for that traffic. After all I don't get paid for toobar PR.
