Well I eat pork, chicken, mutton, fish and beef thats it and that's all. All those weird stuff like cat meat, dog meat, monkey's brain are things I can't stomach :(

The biggest reason for abandonment of "pets" is irresponsibility in the human involved. So many refuse to spay or neuter their pet and then when they are covered up in babies they throw them out like trash with the insane and totally incorrect idea that since they are "animals" they will know how to get by.

Well, humans are "animals" as well and I would like to see how well some of them get by without their electricity and grocery stores!

It is true that in the USA there are animal protection laws but they vary greatly from place to place and sometimes enforcement of said laws is ignored. There is no money in rescuing animals so it is generally left to charitable people to do what they can for as many as they can although this leaves way too many still sent to "the pound" which is an almost automatic death sentence. Less that 1% of the animals that end up in the government provided facilities are adopted and the rest are eliminated.

I am a great "animal" lover as well and have worked in a rescue facility before. All five of the critters running around underfoot right now are rescues that were abandoned or facing death when MeMate and I came across them.

Regrettably there is a great bias for "pureblood" breeds in this country and the mongrels get the short end of the deal even though they are genetically superior and generally all around better pets.

As for using dogs as food, well, cultures vary and just about any animal can be eaten. Even though I am a Kentuckian, I have eaten dog. The first time was at a meal with some of the immigrant Mexicans we have up here. Didn't care for it much as it tasted a bit like slightly rancid potted meat.

However, an Indonesian couple I knew proved that "dog good with right sauce"! I have researched and the dog farms usually treat their product much more humanely that just about any cow, pig or chicken ranch in this country you could sneak into and witness.

Remember, just because it sounds strange to you doesn't mean its not just another day for someone else.

So remember, spay or neuter your pet so you are not adding to the pet overpopulation. And if you go abandoning your pet to the capriciousness of chance on the open road then may you please be done the same to some day.

Each culture is different, so I guess I shouldn't comment too much, just that man's best friend is something I won't want to turn into food.

But it is good advise to neuter your pets or tell the local authorities to neuter the strays, this will help contain the problem but controlling the population of strays.

I don't know where you get that from, my pure breed dog is the best damn pet I have ever had.

Muts can also make good pets as well, to say they are better though is a bit out there.
