Why pay for submissions to directories.

To me is does not seem right for directories to make you pay for a listing they may not provide. In my case when I come across that requirement I move on to another directory to submit to so they are loosing money. It would be better for them to let us submit and if they reviewed our submission and were going to allow us to be listed then they would make it go love when they paid. Are there any directories like that and if not why not. The same thing for being forced to provide a link to there site before knowing if you site is going to be excepted.

I am not saying they have to list us and then we pay because that could be mis used. I am saying that the proses would be we submit to the directory. Then when they approve the submission before going live with the submission they would email us for payment. If we did not pay they would not go live with the approved submission.

You forget the business rules! If you are trading, this means you want the goods first, and then payment.

Their is zero need to pay for directory listings.

Simply do not submit to paid directories.

You are paying for a website review, not a link.

What you wrote is an absolutely ridiculous request!

Payment must be upfront because there are too many people that would not pay after directory owners waste their time reviewing your site.

If you have a good website, then you should be confident enough to submit it and pay for a review. Most directories refund the fee if you are rejected.

If you run a business then you should have an advertising budget and if you don't have an advertising budget then you should probably get out of that business.

@roezer Yahoo does not refund review fees when your site is rejected.

You can get great free traffic to your site (unlikely) but most importantly you get good PR assuming its a quality site.

I think there are directory sites that are free. But some of them require paid links especially if the directory site has a big page rank the link is in the front page or something like that.

By submitting our sites to directories we can get more back links and more traffic.

    Thanks

So what you are saying then is that an editor should donate time to review your submission?

Everybody want's something for free and this is really not new in any business. As hotftuna noted, don't submit to paid/premium directories if you have concerns over wasting money.

If you question whether or not your site will get approved, maybe you should make sure the design and content are unique and worthy of a listing in the first place. If your site is unique and provides good info, your concerns are probably exaggerated.

Why would any directory owner spend time reviewing and listing your submission and then wait and hope you would make the payment and you wont be another spammer or auto or semi auto directory submission software/script. This make no sense at all.

If you do not trust a directory to accept your web site submission then do not submit to it and look for another which looks more trustful and worth it.

Many directories offer refund back in case if your website will be rejected, you can go after those.

You can also contact any directory owner and see if your web site would be qualified to be listed if submitted to there directory or not and according to there response you can proceed.

Try comparing your site to others in the category you wish to submit to. That's the easiest way to compare. Of course if you are still in doubt, you may want to contact the directory owner. While it may not be a complete review, in many cases they will let you know whether your site appears likely to be accepted.

Read the directories submission guidelines and compare that criteria objectively to the site you want to submit.

Typically the submitters who worry the most about their site getting accepted are the ones with low quality sites and the submitters already realize they have a low quality site.....

That is why most of of the guys who have been here awhile and adhere to their editorial standards don't waste time posting to a thread like this. I did only cause I am watching a game where my team is currently losing and I am bored.
