Hi, Our website, Rapdrums.com, has a pagerank of 0 and we have struggled to figure out why. Can someone please take a look at out site and tell me if they think it is being penalized or what is happening. Any suggestions in code changing would also be helpful. Thanks, Stacey Trent
Google shows 31 pages indexed: http://www.google.com/search?source...GGLJ,GGLJ:2006-05,GGLJ:en&q=site:Rapdrums.com I can only find a total of 32 links to your site, most of them internal links with about 7 from forums and blogs, etc. According to the whois, this site has been around for a while: I'm guessing either it's been parked for a long time or you've had it sitting somewhere looking mournful and hoping it would be discovered on its own. You need to list the thing in some decent directories and promote it a bit more. Or actually a lot more.
I do not see anything wrong with your site. However, I see that Google does not show you as having any backlinks. In fact, Google does show your site on a search. . . but that is it. A tried out one of the page rank tools and they could not find you. I see that you have around since 2003. Can you think of anything you did to alienate Google?
Why would google show that there are no links when really there are? If you search for just "rapdrums" or "rapdrums.com" you will find there are at least 6 or 7 other real pages that link to the site. Why aren't those showing up when you search for links specifically?? The site has been around since 2003, however it was highly underdeveloped until about 3 months ago. There was a major major renovation that took place. Could this put me unfairly low in the listings? You say: "You need to list the thing in some decent directories and promote it a bit more. Or actually a lot more." Well, getting a high ranking in google is definitely promotion, but other than that how do I go about listing it in directories and what will this do for google giving me respect? It's very frusterating because I do have backlinks and I should be ranked AT LEAST a 1/10. More suggestions please...
According to Google, you do not have any backlinks, at least none that that recognize. Join the coop, promote your site, list it in some directories, or buy some good quality backlinks and wait...
Read what I said above, though. I DO have backlinks, so why aren't they recognized? And how do I go about listing in directories?
I see that, but what I am saying is the reason you do not have PR from google is because google sees/lists no bl's. I see thet MSN and Yahoo do. I found it quite interesting that one of the BL's on MSN is from WikiPedia... No PR on that page though ;( As to why google does not list them? I don't know. I think you eluded to that fact that you recently re-designed the site? That could have something to do with it. I'd just continue to get more back links and sit back and play the waiting game.
Sorry for 2 in a row, but also, why is it that my site doesn't appear in the rankings for any of the keywords the we have optimized for such as "hip hop samples" or "hip hop drum sounds". I might be able to understand why I have a PR0, but should I still be showing up in the search listings? I'm not even in the top 100...
It just takes time, they may not show them, but they do see the links. Keep working on getting backlinks and fresh content. By the next PR update you should have movement. Remember, google PR is realtime, but the display in the toolbar doesn't update frequently. Try using the search function on the forums to read up on many great threads on link building strategies.
Apparently google DOESNT see the links though, why? Even if I don't continue to build backlinks, I should still have a PR of 1 at least (and a listing under my keyword searches). It's ridiculous. How do I know I'm not being penalized for something (no idea why)?
1. Google only lists a sample of backlinks, ever. You will nevr see ALL of your backlinks using the link: query in Google. 2. Check to see if your external links (all 6 or 7 of them) are no-follow or scripted rather than regular "live" links.
Results 1 - 10 of about 3,090,000 for hip hop samples Results 1 - 10 of about 4,380,000 for hip hop drum sounds These are pretty broad kw's IMHO, that and there are quite a few sites with that KW's. What's not to understand? You are one out of several million sites with the same kw's. Focus on some less broad kw's first. The kw's "hip hop drum sounds" does not even appear anywhere in your HTML. Try using the kw suggestion tool. Hope this helps...
I have modeled my keyword usage after the #1 listed sites. There are not several million that focus on those keywords, but they simply have the keyword somewhere in them. There are maybe 8 or 9 that focus on those keywords. My entire site is based on "hip hop samples" and there are not many that are.
repdrum, its time to stop talking and start listening. We are not pulling these responses out of thin air. Feel free to use to search if you do not believe us. Copying keyword usage and having a few backlinks isn't going to get you to the top of the search engines within months. Keep working at it and learning SEO and you will get there in time. Good luck
I understand that. I'm not expecting to be the best right now. But, I am expecting to be something. I just feel like I should at least have a PR1. I'm just worried that I'm being penalized.
Well there are still about 150,000 for just "hip hop samples" It's not an easy thing to do. How long ago did you revamp everything?
It has been more 3 months since the last visible PR update. You would not have any PR since you stated you have only developed backlinks and content within the last 3 months.
