Why only an Index page?...

Ive been searching for a webtemplate for days but every single one I have downloaded has come with nothing but an index page.
I am not an experienced coder and use notepad to edit my templates so why don't people fully code/finish their templates before release?
Just an index page which is busy/filled with images... but no content page which should be blank and ready for text... even if they include "read more" in the live preview they still wouldn't even create a content page.
Anyone know of a website with free full webtemplates?

I wonder where did you download the web template. You might download the wrong version. It should not be like that. You might want to start at www [dot] oswd [dot] org (sorry I can't write a link yet) to find some HTML templates.

You could always download a trial copy of Adobe DreamWeaver, it is fully functional for 30 days, and make as many variations of the index page for second and third tier usages as you see fit, using the color schemes, css, header, navigation, other images as necessary to layout for your use. ;)

Most content pages are in fact stripped down versions of the index page.
It is assumed that once you have the index page as you want it, it is relatively easy to make content pages with the same look. The advantages of this approach is that you use the same graphic and CSS files and thereby reduce loading-time.

Seventh, it is like this; every website starts with the 'index' page. So every page on a website is underneath the index page. That means that the only top level page on any website is the 'index' page. So why bother creating any templates other than the index page?

To answer that question requires that the template designer think beyond the template. To really design a template that works you must think about the end user. And that means creating a template with that person in mind. In my opinion most designers are only thinking about themselves. Therefore one version called the 'index' template is enough.

I totally agree with you that a good template design will show a content type page as well as a raw template. I use Site Build It for all my websites and they just released 450 new templates. Each one comes with a 'master' and a 'demo' pages as well as all the supporting files to make them work like a well oiled machine. None of these new templates has an index page. However these templates are not free, but come with your subscription to the service.

From my point of view there are professional templates and then there are the dime a dozen variety. To me a really professional template is designed with me and my niche in mind. I would pay extra for all the bells and whistles if I was more confident that the template would go beyond what the designer had in mind. Like usability, reconfigurability, expandability and it's got to look good too.

So to answer your question try looking at Site Build It ! @ bwt [dot] bestnettool [dot] com to see what I'm talking about.

You can just duplicate the page and redesign for your own needs. Templates are just for creating an overall look.
