Why Number Links Going Down

I have read many threads about how Google does not always show the number of links on a site, but I seen to be going the wrong way. Our site, www.express-invitations.com has several hundred links, mostly relative with PR 4 or higher, yet Google shows fewer than 100.

To make matters even worse, I discovered today, that Googe is showing a REDUCTION in links. Can anyone explain why this is happening.

Our site is approximately 5 months old, and with the latest Google Update, it went from a PR 0 to a PR 5, yet still has no significant placements in Google Search Terms. Thanks

I'm afraid the answer is "No".

Since no one here admits working for Google, we can only speculate. And that is exactly what we are doing in many threads on this topic (see Google Broken thread etc.).

about the page rank 5 and no results in google. thats normal, a pagerank only ranks the value of ur site. it says nothing about how interesting your content is to searchers. for that you need a lot more like backlinks, optimal content, page titles, etc etc etc. read a few google forum topics and you'll learn.

I'm not sure I understand your meaning. Are you saying that Google doesn't care about links or that the link command is an unreliable way to measure them?

    Thanks,

    Roger

Google does. SEbasic just doesn't care about the results of the link: commandas served recently by Google.

Google only shows you what they want you to show. It is nowhere near the truth at the moment. That explains SEbasic's point of view.

As long as you know links are going up then you are fine. Links reported by your own manual analysis is the only thing that should really matter to you. Don't rely on Google for that!

What these guys are trying to say is that the Google link command is not accurate anymore. It used to report the majority of links with PR4+ . Now it only shows a random sample of links, most of which are < PR4. Your links may have "gone down" because Google has chosen this month to show you less. The best thing to do is to use Yahoo for link determination. If you get the Optilink software, you can query Yahoo for your links and the software will get the Google page rank of each of the links it finds in Yahoo. That way you can identify your most important links and even more importantly, identify high page rank links from your competitors.
