Hi again, So my year at Godaddy ended today and I'm on the fence over whether I should reregister my hosting and domain with them or if it's time to move on. THe whole thing is going to total to $80 and, though I feel that's expensive, I had an ok experience with them, only a handful of outages and fairly good tech support. However, I keep hearing about how horrible GoDaddy is and why no one should use them, right down to the fact someone has registered a website called NoDaddy in protest. I was wondering what exactly they do wrong that everyone else does better. There's no doubt that they're the biggest. I was wondering if they're really as bad as the more experienced website owners say, and if so, who would be better? I tried a few raters but I'm not sure who I can trust and who is just promoting their own servers. I'd be kinda concerned if I had to spend a year with a server I couldn't trust. Any help would be much obliged.
I haven't had much bad experience with Godaddy but my experience is limited. My friend has had more experience with it and tells me that they are fairly good. I use Ipower for my domain hosting, and although it isn't spectacular, it's good and hasn't treated me bad so far.
You can have domain with them but not hosting. I would suggest you to move from Godaddy to another hosting company. Godaddy is a popular domain company but not with web hosting industry. There are many alternate choices for that price range such as bluehost, hostgator.
I believe that they can be perfect for registration of domains.. It is Domain Name Registrar. You'd better choose reliable web hosting provider - it will be much more reasonable.
Yeha godaddy is ok for registering domains but they will spam you to death once they have your email - I get between 2-5 spam emails per day from them, all cloaked to look like something that needs my attention. Sad. If you want a cheaper and far more professional registrar then use namecheap - I use them for registering domains and for some of my hosting and they are pretty good (and cheap !) Servage is also a really good web host with great data allowances and they are adult friendly - never had any problems with them.
Its time to move on. You can find a better host with the same price with GD. And domain can continue using GD.
Godaddy hosting is not good enough compared to big players such as Hostgator, Inmotion, Fatcow or else. Their domain registration is ok as long as you do not have any illegal activities. There are many cases that Godaddy have some customer domain account suspended due to illegal spam activity reported via email. Most of domain registrar do always listen to their customer first but Godaddy will shoot before asking you. It would be a serious situation if your competitor report a fake illegal activity to Godaddy and cause your website to shut down for a while. Most of my important domain name were not registered with Godaddy, or moved out from them already.
I agree with everyone here. Domain registration is OK with them but I do not recommend using them for web hosting. In fact I've even been moving my domains registered with them over to namecheap for domain registration.
Thanks for all the help, I'm probably gonna reactivate my website, and I think it is time to leave GoDaddy, so thanks for all the alternatives
Everyone has their own experiences that turns out to be a hate. Others just experienced one bad service, and they are calling them "scam", "fraud", etc. It's best to determine whether GoDaddy is a good host by keep observing your web hosting account. When you need their support, submit new ticket, and observe their turnaround time. If you believe they are doing very well according to your standards, then you got the right host.
Godaddy has their own control panel to control the hosting accounts, like setting up new databases and stuff. if you're not used to it, it may seem confusing at first. They are also a great place for first timers, since they have an extensive support knowledgebase where you can lookup and read about a lot of things. However, once you start to get thousands and thousands of hits, you can no longer remain on their shared smaller plans. And for the money they charge for a VPS or a dedicated, you can easily move elsewhere and get better value for money. many professional hosts will even move your current site and scripts when you sign up.
In my opinion, GoDaddy surely sucks! heir domains are ok but their hosting clearly sucks and their tech support are even worse. The hosting seems ok as long as you dont need support but when you do then you will see irrelevant replies
