    Maybe you keep installing unverified software, otherwise Windows XP is quite stable.

    try avast, its one of best anti viruses in the market

    i have been using it for quite some time and never had any issues with it

    if possible try to format your hard drive before installing windows next time (that will wipe out every virus if there is any)

    I've been using XP for more than a year now, nothing bad happened.
    XP is a robust system, way better than Vista. I've used Windows 7 in the past, love the GUI, but can't afford
    to buy the original.

    Patches are not evil, they are useful. So, I wouldn't recommend not installing them. Needless to say, those who
    are using hacked XP version are usually affected by some patches geared towards detecting them.

    Use the latest updates, if still bugged, go for Windows 7. If you are still unhappy, try Ubuntu?:)

    use nod32, keep it updated;
    also do frequently checks with CCleaner, RegistryBooster and Defraggler. These are fast tools so they don't put high load on your system

    A legit fresh install of windows xp is decent. Make sure you are not using some hacked version. Always use legit. If your problems persist, wipe out and reformat your drive to make sure everything is truly freshly installed.

    Maybe just reinstall windows from scratch or get rid of any programs that you do not need

    Windows xp is a stable OS yet its also vulnerable to viruses even when you install reputable anti virus Unlike vista and windows7.

    If you don't have a original copy, don't update it. Just turn off the updates.

    You need antivirus, personal firewall (note that personal firewall if different from antivirus firewall if you are really concern about security), anti-malware, web surf shield and online scanner. Make sure you keep them up-to-date and use online scanner before downloading any unknown software or email or opening corrupted links if they are necessary to open but its best you don't open them. when ever you put flash drive in your system don't just open it first scan it then use (explore) to open it. and if you don't know what your are doing just ask Google.
