Is there any dmoz editor in this community? I don't know why they are so suspicious to the new sites these days and don't really accept any quality website to their database even in the same category where other very similar websites are already listed. I submitted my website http://www.skgtechnologies.com in the category where I see a few very similar websites but I don't see my website approved even after several months.
Read around and you will see that your site has to wait for an editor to volunteer to work in that section, that can be from a few days to a few years. No one is suspicious, just we are not here as a listing service for site owners, editors collect and collate sites as their hobby in their spare time, and no telling how much time will be spent in any section. You just have to wait. But it is true that the number of site son the web has increased exponentially and so editors will struggle to be able to keep up with that growth. Solution...we need more people who can pass the entrance tests and become editors. You?
There must have been some part of 'suggest your website once to the one best category' that you didn't understand. Suggesting it to nine different categories makes you look like a spammer. Guess what - we treat spammers the same way that you treat spammers. Have a nice day.
whats good for the goose is certainly never good for the gander... Why does the ODP guidelines say one thing for the suggester, yet another thing for the editors? I thought that it was good for the suggester to read the guidelines? There are some sites with hundreds of listings in multiple categories, and at least one site with thousands upon thousands of pages in thousands upon thousands of categories. Its odd that one site would be in that many categories, yet another site that crosses over to multiple categories should ONLY be submitted one single time. *shrug* I know, I know, it's your rules, and the submitter should follow them, but, erm, exactly what rules should they be reading, and what happens when those are wrong?
If you are so desperate to get listed, just go to a freelance site and pay and get listed at once. Don´t believe anything that the so called editors say here about being honest and doing this as volunteer. There is about 200-300 senior editors in ODP and I can guarantee you that at least 90% of them selling listings or in other way benefiting from ODP.
Please do offer your proof, we want to see that guarantee that you are offering that 90% of senior editors are taking bribes. I am a senior editor. #Q Q,please go and get your eyes tested and get a check for altzeimers. Can't you read or remember for more than a few seconds? This a quote from DMOZ guidelines (my embolden) http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html
Provide a proof that you are senior editor. As far as I know you are just a wanna be that posts a bunch of BS. When you have provided proof then I provide proof that 90% of senior editors are taking bribes or in other ways amke money from ODP.
You answered your own question! If there are similar sites already listed in the category, what is the point in listing your site? There is no reason for DMOZ to listed more and more sites offering the same thing. If you want to get listed you need to have something that those already listed do not have!
it will take some time even i have submitted some of sites but i didnt accept it yet.don't know why atleast they should sed some mail or anything to inform us
So true Anonymously... sorry, I forget about that. Now mind explaining why they bothered to add hundreds of other pages in the guidelines if it all falls down to that? Its odd that its a rule but it isn't... I guess when it isn't a rule, thats when it belongs to an editor. Is that it? Then again, there is that bit you didn't bold: whether and when to include more than one link to a site, when deep linking is appropriate Which I guess means it's more then appropriate to deep link tens of thousands of pages full of nothing but duplicate/syndicated content. I wonder why you keep going on about unique content being the main thing when it comes to getting a page approved. It's truly mind boggling how you keep defending your double standards.
1. They are only suggestions 2 We are not a listing service for site owners 3. It would generate too much heat if we started telling people their suggestion had not been accepted...why not...best site ever..DMOZ is a HOBBY for editors to collect and collate sites and DMOZ accepts suggestions to help the editors who want to use that help, for those who do not, they just find sites without the help of suggestions. Personally I would stop accepting suggestions...but I lost that vote.
4. We are like 20 guys looking at 4.8 million submissions, we will get to you .............. some day (no not really shhhhh)
joeventura - this is really huge numbers. But, you should accept more editors then. I applied for editor and was rejected for some minor thing.
