It's like a dark cloud. It's hard to breathe.
    We're trying to breakthrough.

I have this website for at least 6 months now.
We have put lots of effort into optimizing the page (Keyword density 4.12% on-page)
Backlinking work is ongoing - I've seen in-page links on Yahoo Explorer rising in recent weeks, but the site is stuck.
It has always sit on position 5 unmoved.

The competitors are 411, canpages and 2 sites with .ca domains (they have keyword as domains)
Our site has the keyword as domain, but with the .com
Competing pages: 115,000 results in Google.ca

We have better successes with other sites - ranking in less than 1-2 months after SEO.

Anyone has this problem before? Why is it like this?

considering what you said, it could be due to using similar link building techniques. i`m not sure how you are building links, but sometimes people keep using the same methods over and over which after some time lose effectiveness and you cannot move up any higher using those same methods. that's when you know its time to diversify and use other methods. if you are using a diversified link building campaign already, then keep doing what you are doing and over time you should move up. competition might look not so strong but don`t judge by the number of backlinks they have. they might have less links but if the links are stronger and coming from more authority pages than your links are coming from, they with less links they will outrank you.

Hmmm... this is serious problem all the web masters are facing when doing SEO. By hearing your comments it seems that something goes wrong in your end, might be you are not moving in right way. stop every thing for some time what you doing and relax, again start your work which has to start with a new phase.
    1. First of all use Google analytic and Google web master tools to analyze problems related to web site.
    2. Check how many pages indexed, and see how crawler coming to your web site, is it coming weekly, monthly? if it monthly then web site has some crawling issue. check your web site codes once again with a web developer
    3. Anything wrong in robots.txt file? check for correct format
    4. Check your web server up time, header response and all

    Let me know the updates

The sites ranking above you will likely have more authority in the eyes of Google, they may have been online for longer, have more backlinks, probably more QUALITY backlinks too. If you aren't beting them in the SERPS, that's google's way of saying you need more quality backlinks. High PR backlinks is what I would suggest, getting a few PR3-5 backlinks each week will start to build up your sites' authority in the google.

Your site's only been live fo 5 months and you're already 5th? Chill! SEO is a long term solution, if you continue to practice good SEO you should eventually beat your competitors (if you're out-SEOing them) but it will take time

Keep adding links. Freshen up your content. Add some comments and internal links to other pages on your site.

I feel this is the common problem for many webmasters. As you said your domain and your competitors domains name related to the keyword thats good for you.But the problem is that you are behind on them only because of you have .com domain but you are searching on Google.ca and your competitors domains belongs to .ca for that they have a good chance to better ranking than the .com domains in Google.ca

And your important pint that your website is stucked on the same ranking position, I dont know how you have build links, you diversified your links or not. if you are not divirsified your links then do that. Also please checking your competitors back links thats not true if you have more backlinks then your ranking will be also very good never. If you could see that mny websites have few back links but those are on top that is only because of they got links from evry good quality sites.

Also another thing you can do is change your home page content push that important keyword that you want to rank top after that collect some good quality content links for that keyword.
