My site www.jeepcommander.net is ranked 3rd for 2006 jeep commander at google, but it is ranked 42 for term jeep commander at google, why is that? if i put allinanchor:jeep commander my site is 3rd. Shouldn't i be in a better position for term jeep commander?

Since jeep is a commercial term I'd expect anything related to it to take at least 6 months to get out of the sandbox.
You just have to keep getting related backlinks to show that it's a jeep related resource & then it will come out.
It's fluctuate for a while at first though...

I would guess that you havent been alternating you anchor text enough and hence the SE has kept you on the 42nd page. While you use an keyword as an anchor make sure you have a couple of them atleast so the SE sees it as organic linking instead of having the same anchor everywhere. If an external website is linking to you and has same anchor through out SE will obviously not fall for the bait.

2006 jeep commander is a much less common term than jeep commander, hence less competition

Ditto.. I just got back to the thread and found that samskpunk has very correctly pointed out the reason.. you have a #3 ranking for "2006 jeep commander" which is a less competitive keyword and hence explains the ranking.

There are few reasons I can point out.

    1. Competition - If you can not keep up with the competitioin you will lose ;). I suggest to go through your competitive websites and find out what is missing from your end or what have you done wrong.
    2. Age of the domain. It is possible to get a decent ranking for the first few weeks just after a launching a new website. But, after few weeks google will drop it in most cases.
    3. The site is a MFA site with no nevigational links. It is against google Adsense TOS.
    4. You have only one page in Google Index. Now take a look at your competitor websites. You need to create more pages.
    5. You have NO Google backlinks. Link popularity is an important factor google considers when giving high ranking in SERPS. You can do some directory submissions, link exchange, or write articles to cover it.

In my openion you must be proud of your 42nd position in google. I feel you are a really lucky man.

Maldives he does have 59 backlinks on MSN and about 42 in Yahoo. So backlinks not listed by Google is not a big issue cuz otherwise he wont have the rankings he is having right now.
I completely agree with you there Maldives... its an MFA site.. get some more content and additional pages dude.

As Maldives says create more pages (indexed or not is a different issue all together)

What you need to do is get quality and related backlinks with 4-5 different related anchor texts (all having the word "jeep commander" in them ) .. not only directory and forums backlinks..
    Good luck

More backlinks with that keyword. My most competitive keyword phrase in my industsry yields over 73 million results. I was nowhere in the top 1000 for google for over a year but on 1st page on many obcure keywords and recently my site went up to the low 100's.. Jeep commander results in 2.0 million results and
"2006 jeep commander" gives 1.9 million. Not too heavy of competition so just keep at it and it'll get there.
