Why my pages appear in site:domainname.com but not webmastertools?

Strange, I checked my site using site:domainname.com. All my pages are there. But in my google webmaster tools, it says that only a few links are indexed. And only these links appear in search results (webmastertool confirmed ones). So how many pages of my website are indexed after all?

    Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Do you want to see links or pages? You start off talking about indexed pages then go on to mention links.

Webmaster tools never shows all of your links. It does however show all of your indexed pages. Doing a site:domain.com will always show all of the pages that google has indexed.

Some things you can do to improve what is indexed. Use a xml sitemap to make sure that googlebot knows about the pages you want indexed. Unless its been locked by google, increase the indexing rate of the bot from within webmaster tools. Ping googlebot as soon you have put up new content. Make sure you use a 301 redirect for your www version of the site.

Also check the supplementary index. Those are the pages that google considers duplicate content. There are a few tools around to check that, but you can also use the link at the bottom of the page 'include omitted results'.

    Thanks a lot!

I get all my 37 pages in the results when I do a site:domainname.com search. But in my webmastertools it's like this:

    Sitemap stats
    Total URLs: 37
    Indexed URLs:19

And I noticed the "unindexed pages" (according to my sitemap status in webmaster tools) never appear in normal search results.

So I guess that site:domainname.com just tells you how many pages have been crawled and the webmatertools tells you how many links are actually indexed and showing in search results?

That's about it. Think of Googlebot as a having ADHD. It starts to crawl your page, see a link, gets distracted and off it goes. So Google knows about your page, has crawled part of it, but it's not fully indexed so it shows as not being indexed.

I could have sworn I saw my rep go up.

place a 301 redirect to non www. (while this is what google indexed), create a new sitemap (you can use this tool: http://www.auditmypc.com/xml-sitemap.asp )
upload the new sitemap to google and then...and then...wait :D

i'm sure your site will be indexed ;)

P.S. From time to time, check the HTM suggestions under the webmasters tools.

    Cheers;)
