I found the best way to keep from buying Chinese crap is to stop shopping at Wal-Mart.. I've not been to a Wal-mart in 8 months now... I've not found it to be a problem...

Wal-Mart is one of the worst. The problem is that people have few choices--by design.

Really? I just do not buy that.. I stopped shopping at Wal-Mart after getting screwed on a bait and switch sale for a pool I was going to buy my kid.. The difference in dollars was minimal, but it was the point. It was not the first time it happened.. I've not shopped their since. There are many alternatives.

I've not missed Wal-Mart one bit, and actually found that I can find real meat and real produce at the local grocery store that pails in comparison to the painted vegetables and sick beef at Wal-Mart.

I don't mean few choices besides Wal-Mart per se. If you go around most large stores and look for clothes, electronics etc., you will find it hard to find much that isn't made in a slave labor camp. Of course the companies are inspecting and making sure their factories in these countries are on the up and up

Wal-Mart is like many companies--it's just more sucessful and large.

A friend of mine in NY has been trying to live without buying anything from China. He was told me exactly what you've said above and finds it very difficult to shop for his family.

He's never shopped at Walmart either.

Unfortunately like 90% of all products have a part or component produced in China, so no escaping 100%. Whatever happened to taking pride in things that say Made in U.S.A. ? They seem to be a rarity nowadays. I try not to purchase Chinese goods as much as possible and do not shop at Walmart. You want to support your neighbor and your future? Buy American!

It's impossible to take pride in products made in the US when most of the products made here are made by a union labor force that dictates terms such that the average American cannot afford to pay for the products they produce, when they are working that is...

The labor unions are sell-outs. The CEOs are too. Every notice how when a company moves production off-shore the price doesn't drop (exhibit A: Dr. Martens, which I have boycotted for a few years now). It's about profit margins so the CEOs and celebrity endorsers can get more loot. The workers get very little money in these off-shore factories.

Most of the stuff from China is junk and some of it is dangerous. I go out of my way to buy American tools.

The US is starting to import a lot of food products from China whcich is really ridiculous.

Clothing is really difficult. American Samoa is a United States territory and clothing with a "Made in the U.S.A." label could have been made in a sweatshop there.

Yeah, why is a country of more than a billion exporting food? None of this makes sense...at least unless you get a tad conspiratorial ;)

Bottom line: The powers that be don't like an uppity middle class. That's why it's being destroyed. It doesn't matter if you are a tradesman or a "professional," a scholar or a mechanic, they just want you to obey.

I agree; other then canned air and tennis balls, I haven't purchased anything at wal-mart in quite a while... Life without wal-mart is more expensive though, and boycotting the mega-giant by myself doesn't do any good... Hoping more people start doing the same thing soon...
