Sorry banner space is bimonthly it may not be much but at least I made enough to be able to get a custom design for one of my 6 sites with my adsense revenue and links now to decide which site I will have it made for and whom I am going to hire

directory with adsense is look not so professional. people always prefer the site with no ads (if possible) but if you got lots of traffic to your directory, you might consider putting in in for some revenue. ^^

Could you explain why this happens?
What does it mean to have adsense on a directory, and in what way is it going to drive submitters away?

you can make more money with banner ads or sponsored listings on the homepage.

Adsense will not allow you to earn a lot on directories, as webmasters visit directories the most, and will rarely click on them

also adsense looks unprofessional, and will therefore turn off possible submitters.

Yes maybe you can earn more from banners and other links, but what does it mean it looks unprofessional?
Does it show anything about the quality of a directory?
What if the best directory had adsense on it?
I know it has not, but what if? Would you think differently?

I would never use Adsense on any of my directories, not only does it look tacky but it’s off putting.

I have heard many are successful with adsense, it’s just not for me.

    Thanks Brian

As a regular link submitter, the adsense placement that really ticks me off is the cheapo trick of placing the Submit URL link next to a whole bunch of PPC ads. I end up mouse hovering for what seems like an eternity trying to decide if what I'm about to click is another 5 cents for some QBC merchant or the valid submission route.

It just looks so totally unprofessional...

Like you, here at the global headquarters of the soon to float 'QBC Directory Empire plc' we are planning global domination in our market sector. Can't say more as we are under strict non-disclosure from our equity investors...

from submitter's point of view, i wouldn't avoid a directory just because it has adsense. if ads bother that much, directories with any kinda text link ads or banners should give me stronger reason to avoid them. at least adsense doesn't affect serp and has no pr bleed, which is good for submitters.

absolutely romow, if you are building your directory for webmasters than yes adsense is useless, if you try to make it useful for regular users, adsense provides additional content to your sites. banners or sitewide text link to another directory  not only ruin a directory, they provide nothing to users.
