And your point? Directory doesnt necessarily mean free links. Most free directories dont offer high PR anyway.
As I said: website owners is not equal to webmasters, you still miss it. It's all concerned about toolbar. And what for is toolbar? TO check seo factors. Not all website owners need to check those factors.
So they aren't visiting directories to boost Alexa ranks, more like going for the PR, as some free directories have quite good PR for raiding purposes (transfer of PR to them). Webmaster want the PR - because it gives them something to trade off of. The title of this thread is Why most directories have good alexa rank? which is weird as no directory I've seen can claim good ranks, PR or otherwise. Yet they are bombarded with submissions each month, why? for the Pagerank, of which Mr directory owner clearly flogs. This is an industry for the few, and one which will hopefully destroy itself with a bit of luck and Google has in a way - encouraged this activity with the introduction of PR.
I never said they are visiting web directories to boost their alexa rank. I said webmasters are going to a directory for whatever reason and boosting its rank as they use the toolbar. @dagre you are quite right, but its mostly webmasters that use alexa. I didnt even know about alexa until I joined DP. I just used to program in php/javascript/ajax and mess with my own sites. I didnt care about PR or anything like that as I marketed my sites with word of mouth.
No disrespect here but please try and keep the thread on track. Adsense has nothing to do with Alexa.
Webmaster traffic is huge for any decent directory, they do tend to look at the page where their link should appear also. But generally they just come and submit a link and go.
Really interesting... Does Alexa traffic or traffic in general impact your Google rankings? Also, I'm not that familiar with Alexa and although I know traffic is important to alexa rank, why is the alexa rank important to begin with; what's Alexa used for? Thanks!
