    I want to know why link building is important in SEO. If any company don't have much link then can it gain top ranking in GOOGLE.

    Depends how competitive the KW's are that you are targeting. Some pages from a site will rank with little or no backlinks at all. Some KW's will take months to rank and will cost $1000's to get them there.

    Link building is important from search engine point of view, it help your site to generate backlinks for your website which in turn increase the credibility of a website. There are various activities that one can do to increase the backlinks, like high pr directory, article directory, press release etc., link exchage(2 way link).
