I'm not sure if this is the right section for this question, so please mods move it if you think it belongs somewhere else. I was wondering if someone could tell me, why do you think Apple has iTunes as a tool for downloading purchased songs? Is this because php/mysql or any option that is using browser is not secure enough so they needed to build their own app to secure downloads or is it that they purely wish to create closed system where users must use Apple tools for process of buying and "using" music? I ask this because I am creating a small mp3 online shop. I'm doing this in php/mysql, securing downloads by storing mp3 files out of the web root and creating headers and pushing files only when someone orders mp3 in a way you can see in most examples available online, but although it looks secure enough I don't know if there is some way of bypassing that system and then iTunes question came to my mind...
because you need to use it to put songs on to your ipod.. why would would they make you use a browser to buy the songs, then use iTunes to add the songs?
because people without itunes could buy them also and that would increase customer base. there are people who listen to music, but not on ipod/iphone and don't want or are lazy to get itunes just so they could buy music.
no, I'm just answered your question.. and I'm not sure now what is your answer - you say they are doing this only to create closed system.. shopping would be also secure through the browser?
