The few things you can do to get top ranking in Yahoo and Google are:
1)Forum participation - to high PR & frequently crawled sites (your signature with relevant keywords)
2)Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
3)Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
4)Blog participation - to high PR & frequently crawled sites
5)Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
6)Link Baits - for organic linking
    7)Social Bookmarking

In some way Yahoo prefers spammy sites. Over do the onpage SEO and your SERP will improve a lot :D
Anyway, you should be happy to rank higher in Google because the traffic from Yahoo is nothing in comparison to Google.

MSN cares most about keywords in url
Yahoo cares most about keywords in title and heading tags
Google cares most about relevant backlinks

Yahoo rewards Keyword stuffing. Stuff your keywords everywhere. Title tags, meta keywords and in content description. Its easy to carry a high rank in yahoo but Google frowns on the methods that yahoo rewards.

Hit or miss really. Alot of crappy sites can do well
in Yahoo. They are an inferior search engine by any standard.

Rumours are floating around that Yahoo is already running tests to move back to Google powered searches. I would try and do the simple stuff like on page optimization, but don't worry yourself too much about Y!
