Why is Yahoo purple?

Why is Yahoo purple? Red was so much better.

 

Over the last few years using purple became very trendy in site design. That could be one of the reasons.

It would appear that David Filo was sent out to buy grey paint for the office walls and came back with lavender by mistake.

Yahoo is a color that has been used as the company's logo since 1997. The original logo was designed by Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang and his wife, Tina Chen. It consists of three circles with a large "Y" in the middle. The colors are purple (the inner circle), yellow (middle circle) and green (outer circle).

The recognisable Yahoo wordmark now has a purple hue. Now that it's more artistic and imaginative, it conveys a feeling of harmony and motion. As an icon, a white exclamation point is employed and is positioned on a solid purple circle.

I also liked the red one better.

 

I remember once Yahoo had a feature to change the color from a choice of about 5 or 6. It was probably way back in 2009 or 10 I guess. The feature was cool and included red and purple.
