Why is webmaster tools so wrong.........?

Sometimes the results are correct.

But I have one example. It's a screensaver site with a BMW screensaver. Google webmaster tools has shown me for months that the site rank in the top ten for the search term BMW, it has never even been in the first thousand. I do also remember to make the drop box only show google.com results.

Some other sites show the same weird data and when i check the last update was not more than 2 days ago. My screensaver site would never rank on the top ten for bmw, i never even build a backlink with that anchor.....what's going on ?

 

I've notice some errors on the new Webmaster Tool, But on the other hand, Other parts are quite better.

 

I thing Webmaster tools not updating with curent data.. shows some weeks old data.. So make sure status of last weeks and also double check the keywords.. G.. not always showing too much wrong data.. little diff can say but not as u said

 

I can be totally wrong but for my sites, I have seen keywords being listed for which my sites do not rank in Google but they do rank in Yahoo and Bing. You can check your site ranking in other SEs and also check other Google sites like google.com.pk etc

 

google must be working on fixing the glitches

 

it is the best tool dont mistake that. but it will show results late

 

Sometimes we don't know when our sites sneak into the top ten but if someone has clicked on it then it probably has!

and for july there is no highest PageRank page ??!

 

maybe it shows some regional rankings - like you are in top 10 in google.it or co.uk but nowhere in google.com ...

 

I find those thing too. but Google corect it soon

 

I have found that webmaster tools is no longer reliable enough to monitor backlinks with any kind of accuracy.

I still use it to check for errors and pages indexed, but that's about it.

It hasn't shown any (of which there are over 600) links to my hompage for several months now.

 

I could be wrong, but in most cases you can filter the top search results in Google Webmasters tools:

You have the option to show:
* Local Ranking in various Google Local SE's

And even to show results from:
* Web
* Mobile
* Image Search Results

You could try those options first, if you're still unable to confirm your ranking then search on different DC's will show it was showing the right results

I've been using Google for a while now, but as the original poster has stated, sometimes the results can be quite far off and out-of-date.

Match up whether it is showing you data for your country or not.

google webmasters tools is like google. It does small updates every day and every so often it does a big update where things like this are fixed. Nonetheless, Google Webmasters is a good tool, but the info IS often updated. For instance, do a search for link:yoursite.com . Newer links will often show using that that than in google webmasters.

 

just like human beings are making mistakes all the time so do the webmasters tools
but u have to admit , they are handy and helpful for the most of time
so , maybe a little bit more improvement will work

I have noticed that when I am logged in my sites rank higher, so maybe you were logged in and performed a keyword search, and as a result your site cracked the top 10.
