I see so many deals from big companies that offer 300GB monthly bandwith for 6$/month how many people get over 300GB BANDWITH A MONTH?? i get 1000 uniques a day and only get 15GB bandwith a month...
Its like the companies that offer 'unlimited webspace', anyone who believes that just needs a slap! The competition is soooo big that they offer things like this, and then dont deliver.
Well this is oberselle But tehnologys are difrent from 10 years back and a weserver now has more resources but not like that yet ... And there are sites witch consumes more exemple Youtrube (1 mil$/month bandwich costs) so .... This is how things are ...
i got a $10 bucks a month 100 gb hosting account from jetnethost and use around 50 gb a month(1000 uniques daily) its mostly fast, but i guess they oversell too.. since the disc 3 is at 95% of its space;x
Most if not all hosting companies I've seen oversell. I've had this happen to me once before and did not like the consequences, as a result since then I've always had nothing but dedicated servers paying for a set amount of bandwith which I DO receive and use every month.
wow, 1000 uniques daily use 50gb a month? i have 1000 uniques daily and use 15gb a month...i guess ur has more images and downloads
I'm new to this whole online web design thing... so they might have exploited me (I wanted a lot of space to back-up some of my stuff while moving around) 2100 GB transfer per month 250 GB space £4.50 (around $9 US)
Well to answer all these questions: Most companies that offer web hosting for a cheap price are trying to compete with the big guys already up in the big market. Yes some don't stick to the word, but not all are like that, so don't judge all host based on a few. Usually the Datacenter will usually wait until the disk space is close to a certain full capacity until they upgrade the drive and add more space. But one thing is true, most people don't even use most of the space given, and others do, either way, the host should provide the space sold. I agree with that completely. But like I said, in order for the little guy to even attempt to make it in the market, he has to offer something the other guys aren't to get his name out there and get known. Afterwards, he can reason the space and bandwidth up a bit and not worry about going out of business. I own, http://www.hastyhost.com , and I'm in the same boat as most small host trying to make it out there, and have not had one compliant regarding space issues or bandwidth, as I'm with a wonderful Datacenter.
that is smart. supply-on-demand. that way if the customers never use up their quota (most rarely do) they can save on extra space.
Indeed that site looks nice. But I'm always afraid when I hear, Unlimited traffic. What if someone desides to run a proxy server on your server. He(or she) will hit allot of traffic a day. Most hosters then disable your account. (i'm talking in the case of no high cpu load and only talking about traffic) I just checked your terms of service, You don't have anything in there about cpu usage (maybe something to put in there, because you don't want 1 customers to use up all your cpu cycles) You'll receive a message about Above average traffic generation and then they'll disable your account. I always wonder how companies like yours handle such large ammounts of traffic. Because they advertise with Unlimited traffic, but in the end... Unlimited isn't really Unlimited. Why not be straight about it? Just my .02€
It's just that there's a lot of hosting providers out there now so to compete....cheap offers are given
I got 750 GB for about $20 per month. I'm a little over 200 GB per month usage now and still not kicked...fingers crossed Didier
I'm running with a plan for: traffic = 2000 GB/Month, disk = 50Gb That plan has been freely upgraded over years, and I'm only using a percentage on that. So I think it's oversold for marketing purposes.
I had one of those unlimited accounts once, worst host performance ever, now I stick to multiple small ones.
I get 25GB bandwidth for $10 a month. Thats all I need. This is a host that deals with realistic numbers. But I am sure even they are overselling. Every host oversells and it makes sense to if you understand the business.
