Could be a lot of reasons, possibly the article directory you submitted to got penalised?

Or it could simply be that Google is assigning more importance to other articles now, particularly since your own ones will have aged.

Don't expect to have and mantain good positions in SERPs just by publishing some articles.

In fact you should have a page with as many quality backlinks pointing to it, to get a good serp. This is what Google Algo puts value on - the number of quality backlinks that a page/site has.

Googles been changing a lot of things around lately also. Could be part of the cause. SERPS are up and down.

Maybe the Google Sandbox... Is the article directory new?

It could also be that you're competing against other articles.

This is pretty normal. Google likes fresh content and will give it good SERP`s when released through various article and press release sites. Over time it will eventually loose position and if there are no backlinks to it and or if people are not reprinting it. That's why it is good to write quality articles on a regular basis. Article writing is one of the best SEO techniques out there if you do it right.

It's normal, when you're articles where posted in that article directory it gained it's ranking based on the site inner linking structure as it's fresh and still listed in the recent items nor category pages..

However, when the time goes on those links where pushed to the next pages within the pagination and got less PR Juice from the article directory site it self.. which in it's turn had to reduce the power passed to your article pages and reduce it's SE Ranking ;)

Even you should submit more article instep to rank again, or better tho build backlinks for your own website nor the article pages on that directory.

    Hope i was helpful.

you can't always depend on one articles to maintain your position in SERP, it requires a lot of hard work, maybe you can just write several articles and submit it to article directory in order to maintain your position in google.
