When searching for "dolls house toys" Warwickshire Miniatures appears top even though it only has 2 Google links whereas the site below it ELC has over 400. The site doesn't appear to be overly optimised for the words. Can anyone give me ideas why its top? http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...tnG=Google+Search&meta=cr=countryUK|countryGB
For my keywords you see that from time to time also but then they disappear and can't be found. Currently for my keywords there are about 5 sites that have zero links to them in the top 3 pages. Mine was there at one point also but then got dropped totally as we are still in the sandbox. If you want to know how to get to the top for those keywords I would analyze the other sites (the ones with a lot of links back) and see who links to them and what they have done on their sites. That will give you better insight into how to get to the top and stay there.
Thanks BCS. I still don't understand it though. How a site with just two links can be above other more established sites with hundreds of links. The site has been top for quite a while as well.
They have more than 2 links. Remember google doesnt show all the backlinks to a site. If you go to yahoo you will see that they show over 100 backlinks. Also in their title, the first 3 words are "dolls house toys" and the first text on the page is "dolls house toys".. so it looks like it is optimised for that term. Not sure how old the site is, but age is another thing to consider.
I realise that but the second place site (ELC) who are a massive retailer in the UK are showing over 400. Obviously they have a lot more than that as well. If i do an "allinanchor" the site doesn't appear in the first 100 but the ELC site appears on the first page. Doesn't make sense to me. I suppose thats the wonder of G that you get things like this.
Someone really needs to get that internet sarcasm detector finished. Anyway, look at the site. It's good. It has the keywords all over the place. It's easy to navigate and gets the job done very well. Why shouldn't it rank at the top?
I didn't say it shouldn't rank top. I'm just not sure why it does. It doesn't look like its been optimised to much to be honest. A few keywords but not to many. I'd have though over 400 links to the ELC would have seen it rank higher. I was hoping some one could shed some light on it. If not thats fine.
If any of us had the answer to that (aside from good design, keyword placement, page title, which are all to Google's liking) we'd all be #1 on Google. Backlinks is not the only factor with Google, though it is said to be the most important - all of these other things I mentioned above make Google like web sites too. This one apparently has the "right mix" of Google goodies. Google is a mystery...
