Hello. Why google calls it checkout subdomain "sandbox" ? I attached also image. http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sandboxoh7.jpg
Hello all, Based of what I've read from the other site which offers online dictionary, this is the brief meaning of the term "Sandbox" is. "The Sandbox Effect is the theory that websites with newly-registered domains (or with pages yet to receive a PageRank calculation) are placed in a sandbox (holding area) in the indexes of Google until such time is deemed appropriate before a ranking can commence."
I know for a fact that when the phenomenon was first observed, someone posting on Webmasterworld.Com referred to their site as being in the sandbox and the name has stuck. A couple of years ago I was at a party at the Googleplex and in a group talking to one of the engineers. He said that when they first heard the term "sandbox", they thought it was referring to the sand on the volleyball court on the Google campus.
The Sandbox is an old computer term. It describes an area where new code can be tested in a safe environment without messing up production or other systems. Once the code is verified & tested it is taken from the sandbox and placed into real world use. Wikipedia has a "sandbox" where new users can test wiki code without making actual live posts. The Google Checkout sandbox subdomain could refer to a holding area or holding stage while the transaction is being verified and before approval.
