Why is there no scientific attempt to simulate solar system at 12/21/2012?

I do not believe that world is going to end any time soon, but sun traveling through center of galaxy and the planets of the solar systems getting peculiarly alligned might screw up something, with so advanced technology why is NASA not trying to simulate how solar system will behave in around december 2012 and scientifically state that there is no danger and if there is danger which areas of earth (like north/south or equador) is going to be worst affected.

What do you think? If you are spending billions of dollars for preventing a possible terrorist attack which might never happen why are the govt so negligent about this kind of issues?

And what makes you think our sun will travel through the center of the galaxy? If I remember correctly our solar system is actually somwhere on the edge of the galaxy

If the world does end in 2012 as the Mayan calendar and many other sources suggest, what do you expect the government to do if it is related to magnetic pole reversals or the position of the solar system in the galaxy?

I think we should just pass a UN Resolution making it illegal for the the magnetic poles to reverse. That would prevent it from happening.

Every 65 millions years or so a mass extinction takes place on Earth. This time it has been scheduled for December 21, 2012.

See if NASA confirms that magnetic pole will indeed reverse in 2012, I guess people who are closed to equador will not get affected that much as people living in other places. I guess we can survive if we are prepared, since I think once the pole is reversed everything will become normal again, so we have struggle for few weeks maximum.

 

Another theory is that there is a rouge asteroid that may hit earth. The Mayans saw it their time and calculated to hit the earth. However, the asteroid is not currently visible to us.

 

Maybe the Mayans didn't want to update their calender any more.

 

The only reason that the Mayan calender ends on 2012 is because their civilization died out before the time to make a new Mayan calender. Their calenders were thousands of years long...it's like if ours were 4,000 years long and our civilization ended on December 21, 6008 some future civilization would think we knew that the world ended on that date. It doesn't work like that.

TU24 a 500ft asteroid recently passed near the earth. Every 37,000 years on average an asteroid of this size this the earth.

 

Who says they haven't? Just because the public doesn't know about it doesn't mean they haven't simulated the solar system at that particular date. They certainly don't let everything they are doing be known to the public at large. Guess the rest of us "unimportant-don't-need-to-know" folks are just going to have to wait until that date in 2012 to see what may or may not happen. Read Zecharia Sitchin's "End of Days"...it might shed some light for a few of you folks out there.

I hope the earth doesn't travel through the centre of the galaxy, There is a whacking great black hole there.
But considering that we are currently 30,000 light years from the centre of the galaxy i don't think we have much to worry about.

2012 will come, it will pass, and people will start thinking about what other rare cosmological events they can use as the cause of the end of the world.

 

there will always be a "doom day" predicted a few years ahead. Not too soon to allow time for selling books but not too far ahead so it scares (credulous) people

Just like the year 2000 C.E.--when the world was also supposed to end (as it was in the year 1000 C.E), 12/21/12 is an artificial number that doesn't mean squat. Get over it.

 

Sun is not traveling through the CENTER of Glaxy. Nothing can travel through the center of glaxy as there is a massive black hole there. And even if It is going to happen it will take some million years from now as we are some thousand light years away from the center.

A Gama explosion is more dangerous than that.

It wont change anything, earth crosses equator of sun every year 2 times, but do you see any massive effect?

dude, if Magnetic poles are going to reverse, It's going to take several thousands years. It's not matter of 2 years of 5 years or so. And then not everything will be normal.. Things will change drastically. Reversal of poles will cause huge solar storms to enter the environment and ionize most of the gases. But before that everyone will die in massive earth quakes because the only reason that can cause poles to change place is change in the rotation of earths core (that will cause never seen before earth quakes).

When the world is gonna end, We don't know. At least its not 'Twenty-O-Twelve"..
