Anthony, I have no interest in diving into another useless discussion with you, since all you do is rant based on zero, and argue for the pleasure of adding smilies or their variants. Everyone else, yes, modern rearing and breeding practices have made pork consumption as safe as any other meat.
Chill out, Anthony. Modern farming techniques - rearing through to slaughter - mean that pigs are under constant observation from birth. Any experienced rearer can spot a problem from a hundred paces away. Not to mention that pigs are inspected both ante-mortem and post-mortem for any signs of disease by qualified inspectors.

Christians have a different perspective of unclean foods...Take a look at Mark 7:19, where Jesus declares all foods clean. Also, see Acts 10, starting with the 9th verse. God declares foods that have previously been unclean to now be clean(the story of Peter and the sheet coming down from heaven). Jews and Muslims however, don't recognize this.

Berkshire is a breed apart, and the manner in which it is raised and slaughtered is concomitantly quite different; I know the ranchers I deal with. It matters to me not only what I eat and serve, but how the animal lived, and how it died. If I could preach anything, it would be to encourage us all to operate this way.

Do you find it interesting that the french are now catering to Islam, rather than the other way around...I for one believe in the loving God, and if I was poor and roaming the streets, I think God would find it ok that I ate some pork if I had to. If God loves us, then why would God want us to suffer for His sake? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Most pork produced today no longer has the problem of the various potentially deadly parasites. This is due to careful raising and breeding of these animals. However various wild strains of these animals -do- have this problem. If you ever kill a wild boar and intend to eat it, be darned sure you cook it REAL good. The danger comes with the fact that these parasites can spread. So if a domesticated pig comes in contact with a wild boar, it is possible it could have the parasites, and then parasites can spread through their particular group, which is why commercial pork is generally safe, but it's still an added measure of safety to cook the pork well. Similar to how the VAST majority of raw eggs are safe, to the point that most of us will never even see a single egg that has been contaminated. However it is still a good idea, for safety's sake, to cook all eggs we use, or to use powdered or pasteurized eggs for our raw egg needs. The reason that pork is unclean when it comes to Judaism has already been covered.
Well, put, Josh. I agree with you on all points. As a chef, I know each rancher I deal with, and know the practices they undertake, but in the normal matter of course, as consumers, we depend on literature and regulations to provide us the information to make the guesses we do. The pork industry as a whole is not what it was decades ago; but I suppose the potential exists, as you eloquently indicate. Bottom line, for me, as a consumer and a chef - know your source, if able. Pay for quality, if able.
