Why is my Wordpress blog not indexed?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by imktgrp, Feb 18, 2010.

Can anyone tell me why I cannot get my site to be indexed properly? I did a google search "site:mysite.com" and it shows only the tagged pages (e.g. www.mysite.com/tag/...) and not any other page. Plus it has cached that info and has not seem to crawl my site in weeks.

    Thanks.

Have you created a sitemap? Joined Google Webmaster tools and submitted that sitemap? I would also get some quality (high PR/relevant) links. Not too many, but a few. That usually helps me get indexed very quickly.

yes, i have put it into webmaster tool and according to it, it is verified and all ready to go. what do you mean add high pr/relevant link? Are you saying that I will need to get those links on my blog. Or try to have those high pr/relevant links to link back to my blog.

You will need links from other sites to yours. The sites linking to you need to be from sites that have high PR and are relevant to your site.

    Check your robots.txt.
By default WordPress sets it to instruct Google not to crawl - (so that it doesn't get indexed before you've finished setting it up). If it is set to noindex it should be easy to change through a setting in your dashboard called something like 'privacy' (from memory)

I don't have any robots.txt in my directory. And under privacy, it is set to allow everyone including search engines.

Can you include a link to your site? If not I could suggest maybe you don't have links to the other pages or for some reason the other pages have a noindex tag on them?

What I do in my wordpress blog is that I put a link in my sidebar way back to me index page. Through that, I'll gain backlinks from my own pages plus it will help my index page crawl faster.

If your blog is new then increase backlinks. Don't expect for the quick indexing of your blog by google. For quick indexing a blog must be updated regularly with many relevant backlinks. So add posts regularly and get backlinks from relevant websites, directories, etc.

I had this same problem with a website I created for my dad. Except, my dad's website had static content that wasn't going to change. :p
What I did was use the content that is already on there and do some social bookmarking.
I used OnlyWire to submit only my main page and I ended up getting indexed after 2 days. :)
    Hope that helps.

If it is taking a long time for getting your blog indexed, then you need to check whether the domain you have chosen for you blog is penalized or not. If the domain name 100% fresh then it does not take much time to get indexed. Keep working on that domain, do some directory submissions or link with some related site. This will help in getting your blog indexed.

I think this has to be some problem with your robots.txt excluding pages to be indexed. What I would do is, install the google sitemaps generator plugin in yur wordpress blog, and then generate sitemap and submit it to google via the webmaster tools console. That should take care of the indexing problem within 24 hrs.

First thing you want to do is make sure you have the Google XML Sitemap plug-in. Then take your sitemap and submit it to Google Webmaster Tools. You will have to get your site verified, then get your sitemap accepted. Once this is done, within a week your site will be indexed along with most of your sites listed in the sitemap.

While you are waiting to get accepted make posts in high traffics sites with your links to the pages you want to get indexed. Also do some social bookmarking. These things can help get your site indexed faster.
