I have a site, www.widgets.com, with a Wordpress blog at www.widgets.com/blog. I have the URLs set up so it looks like www.widgets.com/blog/index.php/how-to-make-widgets. The main site, which is basically anything under the main www.widgets.com/whatever is getting very nice, steady SE traffic, from google in particular. But as soon as it's anything having to do with the blog, SE traffic drops off a cliff...like maybe 2-3 visitors a month, vs hundreds for the main site. Is this an SEO problem?
Are you sure it's not a dynamic site that google can't crawl? Do you have the Google webmaster tools setup with a list of all your content so that google can crawl it? Maybe you should ping all of your posts to the various ping services.
I've installed a bunch of SEO plugins (including a huge ping list). Is there some way to check if it's a crawling problem? The main site is pure HTML.
How often do the bots visit your site? Check your awstats. Do you have a particular keyword for which you rank well?
The bots visit my site pretty much every day. As far as keywords, I get most SE traffic from long tail phrases. I'm not ranking well for anything competitive. I just find it curious that I'm barely getting any long tail SE traffic for the blog, given I have a decent amount of content there. By the way, the main site is PR 2, as are most of the pages on it. The widgets.com/blog has PR 0 and so do all the blog entries. Is that the problem?
Funny i see no wordpress blog.. All i see popups ect (actually i only see blocked poups)... very little content = zero SE traffic
If I take the content off the wordpress blog and integrate it into the HTML site, is that going to create a duplicate content problem?
Sorry i stand corrected... Whats da point of postin 4 links to a site thats not your own!!!.. Wouldnt it make more sense to post your own urls so people could take a look and maybe would have a better idea about the questions you are asking..
Content isn't the only thing which will give you rankings. Do some social bookmarking, comment on similar blogs, do link exchanges with similar blogs. If possible buy some one way links to your blog
How does the ranking work with sub folders? For example, let's say widgets.com is a PR2. If I make a new page at widgets.com/redwidgets, is that more likely to rank high than widgets.com/redwidgets/index.php/bluewidgets? In other words, does it "dilute" PR the farther away you get from the URL with PR? Since my main directory, widgets.com, has PR2, am I better off adding new content at widgets.com/newcontent as opposed to widgets.com/blog/index.php/newcontent?
get some links to your blogs. chances are your pages are not cached / supplemental. You need some links to your blog mainpage, and a few going to inner posts wouldn't hurt, and would get the traffic flowing. I also am assuming your linking to the blog from your navbar on your mainsite, if not, that will help. Joe
Yes, although direct links to those sub-folder pages can push the PR higher -- you can have subpages with higher or same PR as the main page (although that is not common). Do you have plenty of links from www.widgets.com to www.widgets.com/blog -- you'll need them for bots & real traffic to follow??
